Title: Physical Organization of CD Collection
Post by: nyraz on July 05, 2007, 12:39:12 pm
I am about to start using Media Center to rip my 1,000+ CD collection, and have a couple of large cases with sleeves numbered 1-1,000+ to keep the discs in after they are ripped instead of keeping the jewel boxes.  Is there any way within Media Center or through a 3rd party solution to incorporate recording the physical sleeve number of the disc as part of the ripping workflow, so that the information is either stored in Music Center, or even if it is stored elsewhere, I wouldn't have to re-enter the disc information in a separate program to keep track of the physical disc?

You can create a custom field.

CTRL + O > Library & Folders > User Library Fields > Add Field...

Name it what you want, exp. "Sleeve #"

Goto "Drives and Devices" in tree view and click your CD/DVD drive that you will use to rip your collection. In the right window, right click the column heading (exp. Name, artist, track #, etc...) and in the drop down window goto Columns and then pick your new custom field (Sleeve #). In the bottom left window click the tag link. In the Tag window click the top left icon and pick "Show Tags In Current Window".

I've done the same, using Reference ID, which is the sleeve number.  See also:
