Title: CDDB registration wizzard causes system crash
Post by: Simon on August 20, 2002, 06:45:34 pm
I recently downloaded MJ 8.0.3348, and it certainly looks good. I was using 4 different apps to rip, burn ... and now it seems that I only need one. However..

The CDDB registration wizard crashes my entire system when I select 'next' in the Third screen (password, and email entry). This is a major  - reach for the power switch -  type crash too, not your average task manager variety.

I have uninstalled all my old music software, virus guards and firewalls, I changed my system locale to US, but nothing helps. I also tried to access registration on-line but it doesn’t exist at Gracenote, I can’t even fool the wizard into not crashing by pretending to be a pre-registered user!

I would love to keep using MJ but I can't live without CDDB.

Try an uninstall, reboot, and reinstall.  Not sure this will help, but worth a try.

Even if it is a CDDB problem, it's too bad that the OS isn't robust enough to stand it.

We're about to make a change that may provide an alternative if you can't make it work.  May be out tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for the tip, but it hasn't helped.

I guess I'll just have to wait for the new release.

if it crashes, i think what you need to do is remove the CDDB registration with regedit and then go back into MJ and re-register with cddb.

I had this problem once and that was the recomended fix per tech support from cddb.

I think it had something to do with a registry entry being corrupt (or at least thats what CDDB Tech Support thought it should be).
