Title: Replacement for CD Car Stereos...
Post by: Skeezix on July 10, 2007, 05:34:38 pm
Perhaps it's already on the market but I haven't seen it yet. This would be a car stereo head that accepts those little USB2 memory sticks (now up to 2 GB) along with (or in place of?) CDs. 2 GB of MP3s is a lot of listening time, and instead of having to leave a bunch of CDs and jewel cases in the car one could just pop the memory stick in his pocket. Also, would be a lot faster and cheaper to transfer MP3s to the stick than to burn them. I have a high-end Alpine in my car but would swap it out for something that would play both CDs and USB2 sticks...

Actually there are plenty of decks with USB ports on the front. Check Crutchfield or Best Buy.

I saw something once that was an FM transmitter that accepted a USB thumb drive. Can't remember where I saw it or what it was called, tho...

I just Googled "FM transmitter usb" and it looks like there are a lot of these out now. Here's a couple:
