My Omnifi DMS1 crashes every time I try and start it. It will go out and detect MC, but freezes once I try to navigate. It worked great w/ other versions. Any idea?

UPnP Server settings in MC change?

UPnP Server settings in MC change?
Not that I am aware of. I did fiddle around with some of the settings, but the end result was the same: frozen Omnifi.

Vista?

Have you reverted back to an earlier version of MC to see if something in MC has changed provoking the crash of the Omnifi?
Try updating the Ominifi software (it shouldn't crash no matter what MC sends it).

I am running XP. I did revert back to 12.0.185, and everything seems fine. Weird eh? ?
-
Would you mind installing the latest build to confirm that the problem returns?

I don't have an Omnifi here to test.
If you would like to help, make a network sniff with the latest version (crashing) and a network sniff with 185, and e-mail them to me (gateley @ jriver.com).
Sniffing instructions are here:

Don't forget to try upgrading the firmware of the Omnifi...

Went back to 12.0.279, and it does the same thing as before.
Let me describe in a little better detail:
After the Omnifi has found MC, navigation begins by navigating to the first set of categories (Playlists, Artist/Album, etc.) by arrowing right. When working properly, this list of categories can then be chosen from by arrowing right again (Choose a certain Playlist, choose a certain Artist, etc.) You then select the track you want, and play it.
With 12.0.279, I can go to the first category page, but it then freezes. There is a dot on the display that illuminates when the Omnifi is processing this dot comes up, and stays there. At this point the Omnifi must be reset in order to restart. Occasionally, it will freeze before the first category page can even be displayed.

I'll give it a shot

Strange - there are almost no differences in the two sniffs.
The date/times are slightly different. (Expected).
The reported version of the UPnP server is different (shouldn't have any effect).
The good sniff does:
Get Device Description
Get Root Object List
Get Device Description
Get Playlist List
etc.
The bad sniff does:
Get Device Description
Get Root Object List
Get Device Description
Get Root Description.
and stops.
There is no significant difference in the first 3 actions to cause it to get the root description for the 4th step in the bad case.
At this point, I have only two ideas:
1) Hardware trouble + coincidence. The omnifi crashing sounds like a hardware failure. This doesn't explain why it only happens with new versions though.
2) Timing of the TCP packets. It could be that the timing of the packets is causing a problem. Even though the UPnP server is basically the same, other differences in the program could cause minor differences in the timing of the packets, and this could highlight a flaw in the Omnifi.
The next step is to definitely upgrade the firmware on the omnifi, did you try this yet?

As far as I can see, I have the latest firmware version available. Sadly the date on the firmware is Sept of '04! Rockford has shut down all support, so the users seem to be the only people keeping it alive. I guess I'll stick with ver 12.0.185, and try updating periodically to see if it works itself out. :-\
