Cupla questions -
1. I use the Standard view to list audio files and organize their tags. When I get my view to contain specific columns, how do I (or can I) "save" that view as a scheme? So far, it appears I can only create new schemes and in doing so, I have to go through a long setup process, redefining what I already see on my screen.
2. Files on my HD are organized as shown below. How can I create a scheme without going through the "Add scheme" process which requires one to click on each folder to be included (800+ in my case)? There's no shift-click option here that I can see:
...
e:\g\<first_artistname>
<next_artistname>
.
<last_artistname>
.
\h\<first_artistname>
<next_artistname>
.
<last_artistname>
.
\hos
\hos001
\hos002
.
\hos800

for (1) will assume you are talking about the coulmns in the bottom view.
If so, right click on a column header->Customise current view->Preset->Save->a memorable name
Then in other view schemes if you want to have the same setup, right click->customise current view->Preset->Load->previously saved preset
You can do the same with sorting as well.
for (2), when you create a view scheme, for the first column, scroll to and
Select File Path instead of the default Library Field
you can select a base path which appears to be the e: drive.
When you are done adding other panes. you will see a tree in the first column of your view scheme that you can use to browse your collection.

Thank you for your timely and helpful reply.
I saw Preset before, but assumed that clicking it would change my view to some preset view, so I never bothered to click it.
Overcautious, I guess.

You can do a library backup before experimenting with new things. A library restore restores also the view schemes. The backup process is quick because it backs up only the library files (be aware that a library restore cannot undo physical file changes).
File > Library > Back Up Library
File > Library > Restore Library

There is a slight downside(?) to restoring from backup in that thumbnails have to be rebuilt again. You can rebuild them explicitly or on a demand basis, guessing the amt of files you have, the rebuild will take bout 2 hrs.

That's true. However, creating a library backup file before any major changes is a good precaution.
Another option is to create a separate small test library for experiments. Then the main library would stay intact.
