I have exported my database of 13,000+ records. I can't open the file because of an error. It says there is an invalid character in line 77278 column 21. How can I find it and correct the error?
Thanks!

Should I report this as a bug? Is there other formats that this could be exported to?

Did you use the File > Library > Export to XML... feature for exporting?
What is "It" ?
What are you trying to do with the database?
-
"It" is the xml file that was created. As to why, I try not to mess with a primary database. If I want to experiment with new fields or develop a simple inventory it is easy for me to do without risking my primary database.
-
It could be a problem with whatever is reading the XML.
What character on line 77278 looks like a problem?
-
If you can suggest a way for me to look at that line I will be glad to do so. Every program I have tpo open the file won't because of the error. I think that the the should be renamed as catch 22...

Try another editor, like notepad.
-
If you can reliably create a file that even notepad won't open, email a copy to matt at jriver dot com.
Thanks.

Will do.

Next time you have that problem, use Hexedit, free download from the internet. Notepad doesn't handle very large files.

The file is larger than 20 MB and I am limited to 20 MB attachments on yahoo. I still have the problem and I can open it with notepad. I have look at the location specified and I do not see anything out of the ordinary. Can I export to a comma separated file?

Can you zip the XML file? Probably can shrink it down that way to under 2 MB.

I need to resurrect this post. I still am not able to import this file into excel or word. I have been able to open it with notepad and go the line that it claims is where the problem is and I can not see any special characters, only numbers in the field. (date info) Is it feasible to export into a delimited flat file?
Matt I sent you a copy of this some time ago and I haven't heard from you. Did you receive it?
