Just noticed that the Year field (actually Date (Year)) cannot be set to store tag data in files?
Why not? I prefer all my tags stored within my files in case of library loss...
Should I create my own user field to emulate the Year field but which I can store within my files?
Cheers,
Mark

i think the field is connected to the date field. and i guess the date field can be stored. change the date in date field see what happens to year and vv.

Just checked - my Date field is set to save in tags, but I do not see the "saving in tags" dialog appear on the bottom bar when I change data in the year field...

Mark,
I have some files I pulled over to my in-laws house into a brand new library and the Date (Year) fields are filled correctly.
I think it must be that the option to store in tags in greyed out in order to disable the option (prevent a user) to NOT store in tags; I'm guessing they are always stored in tag by default.
btw- I just edited the field and do get the Saving Changes To Tag dialogue at bottom

The [date] field is stored in tags. The [date (year)] field is calculated data, (calculated from the contents of the [date] field), and as such, saving in tags is disabled.
The trick to discovering whether or not a tag is saved in the file or not is not to watch MC's status bar, but to open the Format tag in the tag window. The information you see in there is the tag data that is saved inside the file.

Sorry, Marko, what do you mean by "Format tag"?
Thanks,

Never mind, I found it... very interesting...

Add the "Format" field to the AW > Tag window if it is not there already (click the button in the top left corner of the window to access the options).
After you have the format field visible in AW > Tag you can click the field for expanding it.
Edit
Mark posted while I was writing this, but this info may be useful for others.

Spent more time exploring this field - really really interesting - I can see some useful tags in there pulled in from musicbrainz that I can help to fill out my own tags.
Marcus, do you spend all your time digging through MC for these gems?! :D Anyhow, as always, your insights are very much appreciated.
