Title: Quicktime podcasts (mov, m4p) crash MC
Post by: c00ld00d on July 31, 2007, 01:56:49 pm
For the last couple of weeks, every time I try to play a quicktime video/podcast it crashes media center.

I've re-installed MC a few times, reinstalled QT at least twice, but nothing seems to be helping. I can play WMV files just fine, and can play the same files in QT with no problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

CD

Check what you've got set for Playback/Video/DirectShow for those file types.

Hey Jim,

I've got mp4 selected for directshow. Tried it without and had the same results. No filters are applied.

mov is not listed.

You meant mp4, not m4p, right?

mov files are played using Quicktime engine. mp4 are played using Quicktime engine unless you choose to play it in DirectShow. If you choose to play mp4 in DirectShow, MC first does a quick test to make sure it can play in DirectShow. If it can not, the file will be played in Quicktime as well.

So, if mov files crashed, it most likely crashed in Quicktime.

For mp4, make sure your have selected the correct DirectShow filters - not only you need video decoders capable of decoding mp4 video, but also splitter that can handle the format (Haali Media Splitter, or MP4 Splitter).

Yep, meant mp4.

OK, I've installed Haali, selected it as my source filter (and any other combinations) and now it doesn't crash, it just doesn't play the video. All I get is audio.

As for mov files, I can play the same files in QT without any problems.

Do you have a video decoder that can handle mp4 video?

You should consider installing CCCP codec pack that includes Haali Media Splitter and FFDShow among other things. Uninstall your separately installed Haali and other filters before installing CCCP.

Thanks, I downloaded the codec pack and that fixed the mp4 problem, but not the mov problem.

Anybody have any ideas on why mov's are crashing MC?

You can email me a log file after a crash (restart MC after a crash, go to Help -> Logging, and click "Click to email log files" - assuming you have turned logging on in the first place).
