I just got a new Vista PC. One of the first things I did was install MC. I noticed right away that I could not play any streaming audio/video....no error message, just won't play. I was going to play with the filters, but every time I click on the "Select Filter" MC crashes. Did a complete uninstall/reinstall..same thing.
I downloaded the Vista Codec pack..same issues. Can someone please help me..I have spent countless hours trying to get this working.
Thanks

If selecting a filter won't work, something isn't right with Windows. User level?
-
I am running as administrator.
Like I said It is a brand new pc with nothing else installed yet. I have uninstalled mc completely 3 times with the same results. the only streams that work are wmv. Nothing else will play and it still crashes when I "select filter". Do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks

I don't know. Bad filter? Try reading about filters in the video threads in the FAQ here. Yaobing and glynor are the authors. Installing CCCP set may help. But I really don't know.
You could tell MC to use Windows Media Player to play videos. It's a checkbox in the same section.
-
I read all the filters info I could find in the forums. I have tried all the settings. I will try installing CCCP, but I am not sure that will help, as mc crashes everytime I select filters.
If anyone else has any ideas.....

Did the PC come with Vista installed? What brand?
Virus checker? What other software is installed?
Does Windows Media Player work? Can it play the streams?
Try Windows update to be sure the system is up to date.
Try a google search.
Please copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here.

Yes It came with vista installed. Compaq Presario.
I disabled the virus checker.
Windows is up to date
everything plays in WMP.
Real player files work fine in MC
I tried google for a while before I posted here with no success.

I don't think it will make a difference, but please try 12.0.294 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=41759.0)
Also try clearing setting up a new, test library. (Possible corrupt library)
Uninstall, allowing MC to remove your registry entries is another option. (Possible corrupt registry)
-
Upgraded, with no luck.
It is a brand new installation with nothing in the library, on a brand new PC
Uninstalled registry entries as well.
These streams work in VLC, Real, WMP, Winamp etc. Just not MC. Still crashing every time I try to select filter

Still crashing every time I try to select filter
For any file type?

It is a brand new installation with nothing in the library, on a brand new PC
Try importing a few files
These streams work in VLC, Real, WMP, Winamp etc. Just not MC. Still crashing every time I try to select filter
What streams are you trying?

Thanks a million for the time you have spent trying to help me.
While doing some other things I noticed that things wern't working as they should....I eventually just reformated the pc and started from scratch. That is what you get for buying a PC at FS.
It just finished and I do not get the crashing. But Every file I try to open , ends up opening in WMP, even though I have the associations with MC. Any ideas there.
Thanks again.

You're welcome. I was puzzled by the problem.
In WMP, try turning the associations off.
