I just discovered this somewhat hidden function in MediaCenter. Really nice that Media Center continues to reveal new secrets :)
But it would be nice if one can change the phrase that is used to copy the information as in particular in some DC hubs there are standards for how to do it. I don't think that can be done right now.
-
Yes, it would be handy to be able to customize the string as you say.
As an alternative you could try the "Playing Now" plugin which can do this and much, much more.

Tried that one, but you need to pay for it, and only paypal was possible, which I tried but no luck (did not get a registration email).

Try getting in touch with Rhinobanga here on these forums and he should be able to advise you. It's well worth chasing up. The plugin does "paste tokens" that you can write in its .ini file and so write any "now playing..." string you can imagine and have it pasted into the active text field with a hotkey press. The beauty of it is you can set up as many 'tokens' as you like, and they can be anything you like, not just limited to now playing strings.
The latest version, v1.3.0.9 can be downloaded from here (http://www.jdnet.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=4).

If you did not get a registration email you should have contacted me asap. Please PM me with the paypal details and I'll look into it.

Ok got it now, thanks!
One question though, I am not able to get the MSN token working. This is what I have set in the ini file:
;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; LOGGING SECTION
;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Logging]
;MaxEntries=50
;Filename=c:\PlayingNowHistory.txt
;Tokens=<Name>\t<Album>\t<Artist>
;Thumbnail=LoggingThumbnail
;Script=C:\PlayingNow.bat
;UseTempThumbnailFilename=True
;HideScriptWindow=False
;SaveWMPMetadata=True
MSNSupport=True
MSNTokens=<Name> - <Album> [Time: <Duration> | <Bitrate> kbps <Type> | <FileSize>]
LiveMessengerSupport=True
LiveMessengerTokens=<Name> - <Album> [Time: <Duration> | <Bitrate> kbps <Type> | <FileSize>]
Am I doing something wrong? I have MSN Live 8.5.
-
I use v8.5 here too, and for me, the LiveMessengerSupport/Tokens don't work.
Close MC, then try adding a semicolon at the beginning of each Live... line, save, retry...
does it work now?
I really do like this album very much:/me is listeng to: 'Here In My Heart' by 'Ocean Colour Scene' from the album 'Live Acoustic At The Jam House' [Duration: 2:58 | 201 kbps mp3 (4.3 MB) | rated 3/5 | played 14 times ~ last played 18.0 days ago (19/07/07)

I have thought about this before, it would be (i think) rather simple
to create a plug-in to monitor the clipboard, when the clipboard filles with "Listening To:" the plug-in could then chop-up the clipboard into parts and change the wording and format.
and if you go one step more you could use the currently playing song field data and recreate a listening to note and slip it back into the clipboard in your new format.

No it is still not working :(
Do I need to enable EnableLogging?
(It is now set to false)
-
yup, you need to enable logging.
-
That didnt help. Still not working ?
Edit: UPDATE
It is working now, but only after restarting my computer.
This is something I noticed before. Changes in the main INI file are only recognised after a full restart. That's is pretty annoying I think.

Blame Windows. The OS caches the last .INI file opened and doesn't refresh it even if the underlying file changes. To get around this you have to either a) reboot, b) open up another .INI file or c) tell Windows to flush it's cache. I didn't implement "c" because it's slow and PN uses .INI files for skins anyway therefore it would have satisfied "b". I suspect what you are seeing is purely a timing issue which can be worked around by switching skins if needed.

Ok I understand. Thanks for a great plugin anyway!

Isn't it preferable that Copy listening to be configurable within the progam itself without having to resort to plugins ?
..most everything else is already.

Yes.
But i am sure it is not a priority, besides i think jim likes seeing "Media Center 12" at the end of the string.

When PN becomes part of MC it will be there.
-
Dont care if they stick a monkey at the end of it, just the ability to customise the msg based on tags would be enough.
