Title: iPod 'not configured to synchronize'?

I have MC 12.0.279.
Every time I hook up my iPod I get a "Device not configured to synchronize" error that is cyclical.
I go to the configuration screen, pick my settings, then get the error again.
Every time I add new songs to my library, I have to take my iPod to another computer with iTunes on, restore the iPod and then take four hours to upload the whole library again.
Surely there is a better way??
Any help appreciated.

That message means no playlists have been selected for syncing in handheld options.

Create and pick the playlists or smartlists you want to sync in handheld options.

Otherwise, you can also do a manual transfer (drag-n-drop) by using the Action Window > Sync Handheld.  Drop files or playlists to the device and click "Transfer".
