Hi Folks,
Please find enclosed v1.0.0.6 of the last.fm plugin. Hopefully this will be the last one before production.
*VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT* - Please uninstall any previous Beta as well as clearing out the files in this directory (if you have it):
Windows XP - <Documents and Settings>\<User>\Application Data\J River\last.fm\
Windows Vista - <Users Directory>\<User>\AppData\Roaming\J River\last.fm\
Here's a list of changes since the last official beta:
// ! Refactored foreign character set support in password storage and track submission code
// - Filter specification now supports multi-line input. Each line will be concatinated (separated by a space) before applying filter to the track.
// - Removed expansion of filter criteria as it was causing some unwanted expansions.
This is a stand-alone module at the moment (i.e. download the .ZIP file, extract the .EXE and run it) but in the future it will be merged into the main MC program.
When you first fire up MC you will have to go to the plugin section and click on the last.fm plugin to activate it.
The plugin will then prompt you to enter your username/password.
I also suggest you click on the "Run the plugin when Media Center starts" so the plugin always runs.
General comments:
1) The plugin now only works under MC 12 - this is a J River decision so if you haven't upgraded by now I suggest you do so.
2) The plugin by default does not start with MC. Again this is a J River decision to speed up the starting of MC. Therefore when you start MC after installing the plugin I suggest you go to the plugin, hit options and check "Run the plugin when Media Center starts".
3) The plugin is now Unicode which means it should handle foreign characters sets better.
4) The submission queue and replacements information is now held in XML.
Please post any bug reports in this thread.

This is either a plugin bug, or an MC bug. I'll post it here and leave it with you...
My screen is 1080 pixels wide, so, when MC is maximised there's some 'dead' space to the right of the last column. If you minimise MC than make it the active application again, the 'dead' space is filled with whatever was previously occupying that space on the desktop.
The effect is there with or without tabbed views.

That's MC's skinning engine. I mentioned it to Matt ages ago.

I think that the plug-in still has trouble with failed submissions. I have "reattempt failed submissions" checked but the plug-in doesn't seem to resubmit.
I also get a message that the failedlog.txt doesn't exist when i press the button.
here is my status log...

I had to trim the log a bit :P i kept getting the following message "The message exceeds the maximum allowed length (8000 characters)."
-
I have the same problems as 221bbs.
It was OK before installing the new plugin. Yes, I followed the instructions :). Then again, maybe this is a problem from the audioscrobbler's site. Happened before also. The line 1550 in the log says it all. "Cannot connect to the specified address/port".
So, I keep playing, and try not to bother...
-
I'm having the same problem. It was working fine with version 1.0.0.3 just before I uninstalled it and installed version 6.
-
The issue should be fixed. Uninstall the plugin and download the new one from the link above and install it.
-
It works. Thank you.

I read some of the earlier threads on this topic, but curious if there has been any progress in syncing tracks played on iPods to last.fm through Media Center. If not, is this feature planned for the next release of the last.fm plugin?
Also, this is a very minor suggestion, but I would find it useful if the "Enable last.fm support" option were available by simply right-clicking the plugin, instead of having to go through the options dialog.
-
Any chance of having this thread pinned to the board?

I'll ask JRiver again what is the feasability of this.

The MC API does not provide a mechanism to do this.

No point tbh. The code has been submitted to JR for integration into the main MC distribution so people will get it automatically.

Hi,
Any clues why I am getting this for my FLAC files now? :
28/08/2007 21:20:40.780 ( 22) > File did not qualify (3) therefore it's not being submitted!
28/08/2007 21:20:40.726 ( 21) > Issuing the following filter: ~d=a filename="\\Nas\media\Music\Black Sabbath\1971 - Master Of Reality\07 - Solitude.flac" Filetype=[mp3],[wav],[ogg],[flac],[ape],[mpc],[wma],[wv]
It only seems to affect some of my files, although all of my files are FLAC, and they're all on the \\Nas path ?
-
I have no idea tbh. I'll ask JR to comment on this when I get back from holiday.
-
It's not an issue with flac's.
I submitted dozens successfully today.
They are on local hard drive though and not a UNC path.
Maybe map a drive letter temporarily for testing purposes.
-
Looks like you may be on to something there - the difference seems to be the UNC path ones, some of which don't seem to work. I've tried mapping a drive, and a file which worked for the mapped drive didn't work when played via a UNC path.
Anything else I can try?
-
I don't know if this is related, but my submissions are failing when I submit as a client from a library server. This wasn't a problem in ver 3. The plugin scrobbles fine with local files, but ones pulled off the library server do not qualify.
-
does anyone still have a copy of the beta 3 version of this they could send me? It worked perfectly for me and I'd like to go back to it.

I'm having this same problem with the new version submitting from a client of a library server. This also worked fine for me in ver 3.
I see the following for all files that I play from the client machine. Playing those same files on the server machine works fine, and playing files local to the client machine works fine.

Well, if JRiver agrees to implementing this feature, you should definitely look into iSproggler (http://www.last.fm/group/iSproggler) for iTunes. I'm using it now because I can't use my new nano with MC yet. I think that what it does is get the recently played info from the iPod and add it to iTunes' last.fm submission queue. MC already does this (get the info from the iPod on sync) and the last.fm plug-in already does that (create a submission queue), but I don't know how hard it would be to bridge the two. Please JRiver, if you're going to support both iPod sync and last.fm, I can't see a reason why you wouldn't want to bring the two together.

I have the very same problem e.g. not submitting (only) from client.
-
Sorry for the late response in answering this guys, work is a bit mad here.
I'll look into replicating the issue and see what's going on, however as a test can those who are getting the issue try entering the filename= criteria into MC's search box to see if it qualifies the track.
-
I just verified that on my client library, putting filename="[FILENAME]" in the search box returns 0 results.
Looks like MC isn't handling the remote filename format in the way expected by that search?
As an example, the filename for a file on the client library view is:
m01p://pauld.dyndns.org:81/D:\Audio\Music\!!!\!!!\01 - The Step.mp3
The filename for that same file on the server library is of course:
D:\Audio\Music\!!!\!!!\01 - The Step.mp3

Just started trying out the last.fm plugin myself and noticed this exact thing. This is, once again, one of those little "quirks" about using a library client. I really wish JRiver would improve the client to at least be able to treat files being served by it's own server as local (or at least know the path to access them). My server is just a dumb box with no monitor and it's starting to get more and more frustrating have to work-around all the library client's limitations. I do so enjoy the setup, but having to remote desktop into the server just to change a rating or burn a cd (I mean, seriously) seems a little mundane. I know this has been discussed many, many times but I think JRiver needs to consider implementing a more true client-server system (with the whole user account idea), but I do feel in all fairness it should be a perk of a new version (hello 13!), as I know that would probably take considerable development and would be a "major" feature add on their part.
-
Yep, I'd pay for v13 with much more sophisticated client/server capabilities (synching ratings and other db changes, etc).
-
I'm really liking this last.fm thing... I was kinda wanting to do something similiar on a profile, but this is so much easier... dang now I really, really wish a MC client would also update.
On a side note with this last.fm thing... I think that the iPod syncs the last played with MC. Well, I only use my iPod like once a week, so does that mean that MC will just sync the last played if that date is greater than what it currently knows about that track? And, if so, does that trigger an update to last.fm through this plugin (if, say, that track had not been played in three months and I suddenly play it on the iPod)?
And, on another side note, does anyone know if WMP on Windows mobile updates/syncs any of this stuff? I seriously doubt it, considering everything else that is completely busted with WMP in general. Just curious.
It's just funny cause I've been to the last.fm site a number of times, but, because of MC and this new plugin, I finally understand how it works... another big smile towards JRiver! ;D

There is no iPod/last.fm integration with the current version of the plugin. I am in discussions with JR on how we can hook the two together.

Looks like this behavior is still present in the 12.0.332 version. Have you heard anything from JRiver about this issue? Also, what the reason for the filename="[FILENAME]" filter in the last.fm plugin?
-
I tried typing in the file name in the search. It looks like it crashes after the initial m01p://. If I just have filename=m01p:// I still get all the files in the library. But the second I put the server name after m01p:// the search is empty.

Oh yes that really would be an excellent addition!
I just posted this request in another thread and only just saw that you are already working on it.

A news from the dev for the bug in v1.0.0.7 concerning client connected to library server unable to send info to last.fm would be gladly appreciate asap!

I haven't heard anything. Also the filename part qualifies the current track playing. The additional criteria determins if the track should be submitted if it matches.
-
I've a stupid question for you last.fm users.
Does last.fm provide any rss feed with your last played tracks? I mean, without their custom interface, just a feed

It does, here's mine 8)

+1 I would also like to see this resolved as I play a lot through the server these days since the streaming issues were solved with the last update.
-
Any updated from JR regarding this issue? I've posted it a couple times in with each new build but it hasn't been acknowledged by the team.
If this is a feature you need, you may want to look at the PlayingNow plug-in. It works for the streaming media files, but isn't as clean at the built in plug-in.

Does this plugin work with MJ12? The new free Jukebox does not have a plug-in manager so I'm not seeing how I can activate the plugin.
-
Can this plugin work in tandem with an iPod?
