It's been the source of some internal debate. What do you think?
-
One word: Stop.
Edit: It's 2-0 in favor of a stop button. Poll's closing now.

What he ^ said.
-
i have the stopbutton always enabled. so yeah, fine with me.
-
yep, stop on by default
but since the code is there, I think you should leave the option to hide it
-
I really don't care ;)
Whether its on or off makes no real difference, one more mouse click isn't going to kill me,
The only thing in favour of having it is that newbies may find it a little confusing (For about five minutes though!)

Wasn't this issue already discussed about a year ago and a good solution provided? (the option)
... or are you debating which state should be on by default?

Correct.

I was fumbeling in the dark when I first got my MC. I clicked on Pause to stop the playing. I was desperately seeking a stop button!. Then I learned that I could use Ctrl+s to make it stop. Then after some days I saw the option to have the stop button enabled (showing). ;)
-
I always enable the stop button.
Removing it...is minimalist design taken too far, only to be used as a last resort when there is no physical space left.
Maybe i'm from the generation that grew up always having it, so not a fan of overloading functions on buttons.
-
Double clicking the play button hardly seems intuitive to me. And stop isn't the same as pause and not seeing a stop button may be frustrating to a newbie. So I say keep it on by default while having an option to make it disappear. Newbies won't be frustrated and power users won't be daunted by finding the option to turn it off.
-
exactly, it should be enabled by default rather than the opposite state of affairs currently.
-
Maybe skinning should allow for better positioning of the stop button,
for example allowing the control buttons over top of each other, instead of just in a line.
I'd like a stop button, but at the same time, it's too ugly for me.
You could make it a right click option on the controls, is another idea...

Keep the stop!!!!!!!!
It got my vote

Poll's closing now.
So the poll was open for 1 Min And 4 Seconds?
Do The First Two And Only Two Voters (And I am Guessing Was Matt And Jim) get a T-Shirt With A Stop Button In It?
Apparently You Failed To Close The Poll And The Stop Button People Are Winning.
(And Don't Go Editing The Poling Numbers)
Maybe:
Config:
Stop\Pause State:
[X] Stop
[_] Pause

I like and always use the stop button, although I don't like the default size of it on Noire.
Mildly better than the original big size of it... but before the small version came out, I resized it myself to be half way between:

Unfortunately I've recently put in a new hard disk and haven't yet found my more recent skin with it, so I've got the old super blue one in this shot...and something's changed with how it works so I've not yet been able to work out how to redo it.
Nonetheless...I think it looks a lot better at that size. Anyone agree?

DITTOS.... ;D

Keep it - my car stereo has gone super minimalistic to try be all slick and I personally hate the fact it's lost most the buttons - just makes it feel instead of slick, like a kids toy.
