Title: DivX slow down
Post by: CoolRaoul on August 20, 2007, 03:17:09 pm
Still no solution to this issue?

I've the same problem since the last builds,

Suddenly, Media center start to fork a gazillion of jrworker.exe processes, and at the same time as much "divxsm.exe" processes are launched too. (some times, using process explorer I can see uip to 4 jrworker running simultaneously)

Whats make me crazy is that when this happens the PC becomes horribly slow and that the focus is constantly stolen from the other applications

I've tried to uncheck the "update thumbnails" option without any success.

Please try a google search for divxsm.exe.  Here's a sample find:

There's no good reason to use the official DivX codec for decoding support, and plenty of good reasons not to (and some of them are what you're seeing there).  Your best bet is to stop using DivX to handle playback, and only use it to create content.  FFDSHOW can handle decoding any DivX content that you feed it, and much more.

You might want to read the DirectShow playback guide here for some suggestions and further info: http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/DirectShow_Playback_Guide

But, to be clear:  You do not need to have DivX installed on your computer to be able to play back DivX files.  DivX is only needed to create DivX files.
