Title: Podcast deletion options
Post by: John Gateley on August 22, 2007, 03:10:33 pm
There was a "bug" recently reported, that podcast orphans were not being deleted according to the options specified. I did some digging and found that the real problem was that the option name was incorrect, instead of "Delete all Orphans", it should have been "Delete all Orphans, subject to a few other constraints specified elsewhere".

So, I'm going to be redesigning the podcast options. Please make requests and suggestions here.

One thing to think about: should orphans be handled any different? Or to phrase it a different way: if you say "Keep the most recent 10 episodes", does it matter if some of them are orphans (no longer included in the feed)?

Another thing to think about: do you use the "max disk space used" option?

Thanks,

j

I do not use the "max disk space used option".

I tend to avoid auto-anything.

I manually download and delete podcasts when I choose to do so. I do want a deleted podcast to stay deleted but I believe you have already fixed this issue.

Thanks for asking for our opinion.

Stop Downloading when less than 1 GB free

instead set this limit in MB

...don't know if this changes you talk about involves Tagging,
but if so i would like to see some more customize options in what fields the podcast data/tags are put

Also grouping would be nice    :)

I don't bother with the max used option.

I second the suggestion to open up the tagging options to more fields.

I don't use "max disk space used" either. To be honest, I didn't know about the delete orphan option. I must have seen it but did not associate "orphan" with "not in feed". Now that I know it's there, I probably won't use it. One podcast I have been listening to has had some problems with the feed because he's been changing some things around. I was able to help him by letting him know about the not in feed and wouldn't have been able to if they had automatically been deleted.
