Title: Video Playback Problems
Post by: itschrismck on August 27, 2007, 11:02:43 pm
I just upgraded my version of MEDIA CENTER 12 and now can not view any video files. VOB, WMV, AVI, etc...

I did not change anything.

I can still view DVD files through my DVD software and Windows Media Player still plays all other video files.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Chris

Can you play these types of files with MS Media Player? If not it is probably the Codecs that need to be reinstalled.

Read this: http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/DirectShow_Playback_Guide

Particularly, make sure that the boxes are basically all checked (except possibly for Quicktime playback types -- MOV, M4P, and M4A) in the DirectShow Playback Settings dialog described here: http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/DirectShow_Playback_Guide#Advanced_DirectShow_Configuration_in_MC12

And make sure you haven't defined anything particular in the Choose DirectShow Filters dialog.

My guess would be that you have some bad codec installed though, which is blocking access to the proper decoders.  You might want to run through the full CCCP troubleshooting guide linked in the guide listed above.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Yes, I can play these video files through Windows Media Player 11 & Cyberlink DVD player.

I will run through your suggestion GLYNOR and let you know.

Thanks again
Chris

You said the magic word.  Cyberlink DVD Player (PowerDVD).  Read this: http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=Troubleshooting_Guide#After_installing_PowerDVD_7_H.264_playback_is_broken.21

Assuming you are currently using CCCP, I'd actually then make sure to follow this whole guide: http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=Troubleshooting_Guide

If you're not, then I'd recommend this: http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page#Latest_CCCP_.28aka._Download_Here.21.29
