If I manually through Windows delete music files, there doesn't seem to be any way to make MC understand that these files don't exist anymore.
Shouldn't the auto-import automatically detect this and remove music from the library?
The only way I can see to do it is to delete the whole library and then re-import everything from scratch which is a BAD solution.

Click On Options > Library & Folders > Auto Import Options
Fix Broken Links

Yes, I have done this. It doesn't work.
-
are/were the files on a network drive?
-
no - they files were on a local hard drive. And this "feature" still doesn't always work.
Also, why does MC12 sometimes list the files with that broken star shaped link when it DOES figure out that the files are not there anymore? i.e. why doesn't it just delist the files instead of littering my display with these broken link icons.

Try the following
1. Chill out
2. Set Tools>Auto-Import Folders>Options>Fix Broken Links to YES
3. Select Tools>Run Auto-Import Now
If that doesn't work, post your system info (Help>System Info) on this thread, and we'll see if there are any clues in there.
