I've just updated to the latest build and have found that streaming radio no longer works. It is either silent or makes a clicking sound. Everything else seems to work fine. And the streaming radio also works in WMP.
-
indeed...
Try this one for a test..
http://gmgA.planetwideradio.com/RealScotland
not working for me, and causes MC to crash...
-
works for me
try this one: Radio Paradise - http://scfire-chi0l-2.stream.aol.com:80/stream/1048 (http://scfire-chi0l-2.stream.aol.com:80/stream/1048)
-
BBC Radio 2's working.
-
real media and mp3 streams appear to be fine.
windows media streams appear to be busted....
-
Have you tried opening them from Windows Media Player?
BBC Radio 2 won't open with WMP for me any more
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/wm_asx/aod/radio2.asx
However it works fine with Real Player

the BBC Radio 2 real media stream works fine in MC with the "Real Alternative" codecs installed, however, when trying to play "Real Radio for Scotland" which is a wma stream, MC hangs; WMP plays the stream just fine.

Here's a link: http://gmga.planetwideradio.com/RealScotland
And here's a log file (http://www.theganghut.co.uk/files/mc/wma-streaming.log). Line No. 86 looks a bit odd?
-marko.

all the streams that i tested are windows media (asf i think....).
all from ABC (that is AUSTRALIA broadcasting company).
They don't crash mc, rather they just don't work at all.
-
Interestingly enough, I can stream from ABC (the Australian one) in mp3 and wma fine. In fact I find the wma better. FWIW, I am listening to the classical stream... http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/classic/classicfm.asx
What is the stream you are listening to?

You using Vista or XP?
I'm using Vista and the crash comes after I either try to stop the non-playing station or try to play something else instead.

Indeed, that classicfm stream is working here too. how bizaare ?
Did you try my "Real Radio" link? That's still not working here for me :(

thanks for checking, but still not working at this end.
I found another link ( http://streaming.gmgradio.com/live/wm_scotland.asx ) which also opens in WMP but not MC.
I saved the above .asx file directly, and it looks like so:
<asx version = "3.0">
<entry>
<ref href = "http://services.planetwideradio.com/location/gmg.asp?content=RealScotland"/>
</entry>
</asx>
Again, that link works fine in WMP, but not in MC!
-
Hmm that one did work eventually here, but MC
got in a real frenzy about it, switching between two dialogues about 3 times
a second.

Vista.
(on XP now). I just tried Real Scotland, the http://gmga.planetwideradio.com/RealScotland and http://gmga.planetwideradio.com/RealScotland?MSWMExt=.asf links work fine for me.
The .asx link/file (http://streaming.gmgradio.com/live/wm_scotland.asx) doesnt work for me, says "The media type of the selected files are not supported for playback (<none>)", even though I have everything ticked in the associations...
-
I've just tried them again, and still no result.
Some stations include, 702 sydney, radio national, classic fm,news radio...
i just get a clicking sound, and media centre did crash this time. This has only happened when the program updated itself to the latest build.
btw, im running xp pro not vista.
EDIT
i just noticed that confishy pointed out the url for classic fm is http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/classic/classicfm.asx
this does work in jrmc.
however, the url i've been using from the begining is mms://media3.abc.net.au/classicfm
in fact, all the stations begin with mms://media3.abc.net.au/<stationname>
the urls work in wmp, so thats not the problem. Is it the way that the newer jrmc handles the protocol/format or something?
-
You're going to hate me!
mms://media3.abc.net.au/classicfm
Works fine on Vista! (will test XP at home). FWIW, I am going File->Open URL and entering the URLs
-
the mms:// links are working for me too.
on one other machine, the "MSWMExt=.asf" works in MC, on another, it spawns a firefox page which asks which application I want to use to open the download, and when I choose MC, MC opens, but nothing happens.
On this machine, the crashing has stopped and MC kids on it's playing the stream, but nothing actually plays, and the duration counter never moves off zero. When stopped, the [number plays] field increments by one.
All very strange indeed. I'll be poking around some more to see if I can pinpoint this. What I don't get, is that on this machine, WMP plays the streams just fine, so what's preventing MC from doing so?

edit: ahhaaaa :D/me is listeng to: 'Scotlands Best Variety of Music and Talk' by 'Real Radio for Scotland' from the album 'Online Radio' [Duration: 0:17 | kbps wma () | rated 4/5 | played 140 times ~ last played 36:16 ago (11/09/07)

ok...
strangely enough, it started working again. Which means i still have no idea why it stopped working just after the upgrade...
(and need to reboot is not the reason).
thanks for anyone that tried to help.
@Confishy: did you get my reply? if not then just pm me with an email.
