Title: Switching from MP3 to Flac albums and retaining tag data. How to?
Post by: MrHaugen on September 15, 2007, 08:44:44 am
What's the best way of changing albums with different file types?
I'm trying to update my library from MP3 only to Flac. In this process I would like my tags like rating, sub genre etc. etc. to remain.
I have whole directories (albums) with tracks, album reviews (txt) and folder.jpg wich I want to switch with the low quality albums. Want to switch both physical place and tag data.

How do I do this as easy as possible?

This system might help (the example is for apl files, but it works with flac as well).

Thanks! That got me on the right track

Involved more steps than I hoped for, but it got the job done.

Here is how I did it, just in case enyone else finds this post:

1. Rip all files to track numbers only. Or rename the ones you have on disk.
2. Rename files in library to track number only. (Are done to prevente naming differences when you switch MP3 with flac)
3. Find and replace .mp3 with .flac in file name and file name (name)
4. Replace old files with the lossless files.
5. Rename files from properties
6. Update tags from library.
