BUT.. after inserting some CD's the system will hang, and i mean hang to the point windows xp cannot shut it down. it stops on "gathering info & Updating view". i must turn off the compter, a shutdown will not work, seems memory is corrupt as a restart does not work, only a full poer off and then back on. some cd's work fine.. only a few do this.. any help???

Could they be protected CD's?
It's also possible there is a bug in XP or in the driver for the CD. There is a lot of software that has to work together.

the CD is Everybody's Grandpa [Box]
Grandpa Jones
Label: Bear Family
Released: 1996
Genre: Country
How do I tell if it is protected. it works fine with media player, it goes out and brings in all the correct info including the cover.
most cd's work ok, Even bill gates people don't make you turn the thing off.. usually a reboot will work.. this is a DELL system that's been working fine for over a year, this is the first software to give me this problem. if there some other software to try on the cd before i give up on your product to see what the problem might be,
Thsnks for the reply

wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer
I think it's here the problem is, try using Adaptec's ASPI.

Thanks for the Help.. I hate computers. after trying to fix a software proplem I think I have found a hardware problem. It appears the CD drive fails on that CD. tried the cd burn drive, and all works well. on to the next problem.. will start new thread.
