Not sure if you are or not but over the years I've seen tons of people copying other players look with skins and never heard of a single story of someone being sued for it.
M$ couldn't care if you copy their skin and freely give it away to other users - what they WOULD care about would be if JRiver copied their look into a skin and made it their default skin in order to have a financial gain.

Update!

Here is my work so far. Been using the Noire skin as the base and also have skinned a stop button but I have it turned off on the picture because it looks a little better.  Post any comments you might have.

Update 2!

Coming along great, finished seek bar and volume as well as some color changes.  Still working on scroll bars. Also tweaked the play and next/previous buttons a bit.  I think I am finished with the player bar and need to work on windows and scroll bars.  If anyone has some suggestions please share. :)

From that pic, it looks pretty slick.  I would try and center the 'fw play rw' buttons.  They are too close the the left edge right now.

The top toolbar buttons would like nice if they were centered on the player.

Notice on wmp11 how the very top and bottom frames are a different color blue (maximized look), and they have a sort of horizontal glass like sheen to them like light is shinning through to them.  You have the main display fram done perfectly but the toolbars on the top and bottom frames could have that wmp11 look to them a bit more.

Well my art skills are very very basic, all I'm doing is copying and pasting from screen shots of WMP11.  Problem is WMP11 uses buttons at bottom and J River uses them at the top.

Sorry for this silly question: but can't you put the button bar wherever you want?

I'd like to see a programm icon at the upper left (something like MC programm icon...).

I think there should also be an other color for the list and action window header. Perhaps something more to black/blue instead of the grey standard color.

Anyway: Up to now I like your skin  ;)

Right, when I said that the bottons should be centered, I meant just move them a quarter inch to the right, they look off center. ;)

Update 3!

Finally! Finished all major parts of the skin.  All the remains is small tweaks and color adjustments. I re-did the play controls to look much much better.  Also, this is as close as I can get to a copy of WMP11 skin, same colors, style, etc. Also made a spiffy mini skin which is below the main.  After some testing and adjustments, I should be releasing it this weekend.

Cool, please release it :)

Isn't there a DSP button underneath the progress bar ? (next to the shuffle button)

If I want also to show the stop button, will it still show nice without breaking the graphics ?

I'm curious what Microsoft would say about using their logo in the upper left corner :)

Well it is "their" skin technically also, I didn't skin a DSP button because I don't see the need of having it on the main page of the skin, I never use it. Also, yes, the stop button doesn't effect the graphics as in the pic below. I tried to do somthing about the length of the volume slider, but it wont let me shrink it. Its almost like it always has to be the same size as the whole player controls. If anyone knows how, please tell me.

I checked the other skins and for all of them the volume slider is the same length then the player controls, so I think the best persons to answer are the ones from JRiver.

Like it a lot.

But I really like the dsp button to be there because I use it a lot to switch zones.

For the rest, all ok

Cool skin!
Is it possible to have repeat and shuffle button under the searchbox or is it a limitation of the script engine?

I don't think its possible, but then again, I don't know all too much about skinning.

I submitted it yesterday to J River, so.. not sure where it is right now, I don't know their turnover rate for skins. Uploaded final version here.

As always, unzip in Megaskins folder.

Updated to 1.3
Tweaked some colors and selections.  Very small changes and not really needed, but it brings it together more.

Congratulations for your interesting graphic work :)

Can I tell something (general) about standard skins ?:

On a computer, no problem when the background of the skin is white or uses a very light colour

But, when used in HTPC mode, with a projector (for me : 2 meters width screen), the background skin in white colour or light colour is a true problem :
background is too bright and creates problem for eyes :(  (very fast tired eyes)

Actually, I have only 2 choices for standard view skin :  Blue Steel or ThunderStorm which are the only 2 skins with a quite dark background

My question:

=> Can-it be possible to change (for the final user) , on any skin, only the background ?

example: for your very nice WMP11 skin :
if I want to have a dark blue or dark grey background, (instead of actual white background), where can I replace a file by another one ?

Thanks for your cooperation :) :)

and.... thanks for ... my eyes :)

Wont need to replace any files, just open the "main.xml" in notepad or somthing and replace all "eef3fa" with the color of your choosing. If you go too dark, you may need to replace the text color with something lighter. However if you change the background colors, the splitters in the tree may look a bit odd as I made them to match the background color, which is the same as WMP11. A little bit of editing would solve that, but its not difficult to change the colors.

I checked...

your work, and attention to detail has certainly produced a very neat skin indeed. I've been using TheFly for a long time now, I think I will use WMP (the skin ;)) for a bit and see how it fares in the longer term.

thank you for sharing, it's appreciated.

Great skin. Definitely my favorite.
It just lacks good tabs images. That new skin called "Nr. 4" has great tabs for example...

To revisit this almost forgotten thread -- I've found an issue that can cause weird display of the player bar background (image "Mainframe_Topborder.png"). Please compare the code below, taken from the original 'main.xml' file:

Code: [Select]
<Entry Name="TopBorder" Bitmap="Mainframe_Topborder.png" TransColor="FF00FF" Margins="312,0,12,0" DrawMode="REGION_E_HSTRETCH,REGION_E_VTILE,REGION_B_STRETCH,REGION_H_STRETCH" TransColor="FF00FF" />

The code line "REGION_E_VTILE" will render the image 'tiled vertically', which can make it look broken (as in screenshot #1 below, tiled area marked in red).
In oder to display correctly in all cases, the image should be 'stretched' for all directions (see screenshot #2), so this code part should also be "REGION_E_VSTRETCH".

What surprised me is the misake does not occur in the skin's original screenshot (neither in the skin folder nor on the download page)... Has anyone else noticed the same?? I've checked if it was related to using large font sizes for MC but found no difference...
