Title: Mouse scrolling wheel
Post by: Squanderbug on October 20, 2007, 04:05:30 am
I have just got a new Dell computer and when I installed MC12, the mouse scroll wheel no longer works.

I've seen threads on here that say the intellipoint software could be the problem, but I don't know where that is on my system. I'm running Vista home premium and there is a dell mouse suite program installed if that helps.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what to do?

Cheers.

If you mean that the scroll wheel doesn't work outside of MC, then that's a Windows problem.  Removing any special mouse software might solve it.  The OS should handle the mouse.

The scroll wheel works fine outside MC but not in MC. Specifically, it doesn't work to scroll through the list of artists, albums or songs etc in the main library window.

Try uninstalling the mouse software.

I have a side-scrolling mouse.  The Logitech software is certainly NOT installed, and up/down scrolling works fine but side-scrolling doesn't work in MC.  It does work in most other applications though (Firefox, IE, Windows Explorer, WiMP, etc, etc, etc).  Since this is my wireless mouse for my HTPC, it'd actually be nice to have the side-scroll capability... Any love?

Thanks Jim, removing the Dell software worked.

I'll agree, side scrolling works fine everywhere else but not MC.

It's always a cat-and-mouse game for mouse features.

Mouse drivers add a feature and kludge it so a mouse action talks directly to a control in a program.

Then programs slowly add native support for the new feature.  Once this happens, the driver and native support fight.

I think we're still at the kludge stage for side scrolling, and since MC doesn't use system-standard lists, it might explain why the driver can't scroll MC.

Does anyone have any more details, or a recommendation for the best side-scrolling mouse we should get and play with?

I have an Micro A4 2 TrackBall, 5 Buttons Mouse and I just use every button very well because of ability to adjust the driver for my needs.

Not a fight anymore, so i want to buy a wireless one  ;D

Is it possible to assign a MC function to the scroll wheel?  When watching a DVD in MC I would like for the scroll wheel to jump forward 10 seconds or backwards 10 seconds depending on which direction it's moved.  Currently I watch my movies in Nero Showtime only for the jump forward with the scroll wheel function.

Scroll wheel zooms image, video, DVD, or TV playback.

You can jump forward and back using Ctrl+Shift+Arrow.  I use these on my remote as the only way to move around. (great for skipping ads)

Finally, you can define custom keyboard shortcuts with MC.  It's a bit advanced and in the wiki if you're interested.

What about side scrolling?
