Title: Multiple DB entries for a single file?
Post by: newmaidumosa on October 23, 2007, 09:35:55 am
Hi,

was thinking..(yeah lots of smoke out of my ears)... it would be nice if you could have MC refernce just 1 file when you a song that appears on several albums.

i.e you have song on an album and also on a cd single and a soundtrack album.. ..you want all 3 albums to be complete but not have to have 3 copies of the same file

a further extension to this... would be that ifyou had the same song in different formats... MC would only use the higher quality file....

what do you think ?

you can, use smartlists, No Duplicates, of name

it's been part of mc for about 5 years

Would those smartlists be able to display different cover art and year?

i think you missunderstood me... I  WANT duplicates in the database  but I dont want duplicates of the actual files on my hard drive

imagine i rip 2 CDs

CD1: Foo Fighters - One by One
CD2: I Think I love My Wife Soundtrack

so my database now holds the tracks from both CDs. However there is a song "Tired of you" which appears on both CDs which means that I have a duplicate of the file on my hard drive. What I was talking about was to only need 1 of those files on my hard drive .. and have both CDs in MC point to that file because if I click on either of the albums to listen to it ,I want it to play the complete album
