I've recently downloaded MJ8.0.398 and installed the MP3 plugin. I found it always crashed when I had "Rip and Encode simultaneously" set. After turning off, I have still found the system locks up within the first 2-4 songs of a CD with either a blue screen (typical) or GPF requiring a hard restart. This happens 90% of the time.
Any suggestions for isolating the problem, or similarities to other experiences?
TIA,
Marty

There is a FAQ here. Check on ASPI there.
Also try checking or unchecking "use generic driver". There are two different methods of burning a CD.
The types of errors you have suggest a hardware problem.

I will check the FAQ, but the content of your message suggests we are talking about different things. My problem is extracting from CD to disk, not burning CDs. I also did not mention, but I am experiencing GPF and lockup problems using the "Convert" feature to convert .WAV to MP3 format, with both files on disk. This eliminates any hardware issue surrounding the CD.

Do you have a CD burner ?
JimH said that MJ8 uses CD software from another parties and it usually works fine, but not for everyone.

I converted 10 tracks today and MJ didn't crash. But the playlist was damaged when conversion finished. ;D

I get blue screens and stuff also when converting files to mp3. It also happens within four songs, althought eh first one USUALLY converts without a hitch.

PS - I don't think the ASPI layer has ANYthing to do with that, nor does the fact that MJ relies upon third party CD software. The reason why I think this is because I am converting to a hard drive.

Try updating MJ and then do check for updates under MJ Help to make sure all plug-ins are current.
Try ripping to wav and then encoding later.
Try unchecking simultaneous rip and encode.

Are you using Win98?
