Title: Problem -- "updating database"
Post by: jiminkansas66205 on November 01, 2007, 10:41:01 pm
I want to thank everyone that has made an attempt to help me and to those that have actually given me info that did help me get my MJ8 up and running again. Now I have another problem. I don't know exactly what I did, but I clicked on something and a box popped up that said "updating database" and when it was finished, every single song in my playlists was GONE. What have I done and can I get the songs(files) back? HELP!

Not sure of what exactly you just done, but if I'm not too late - undo is the way to go a step or couple back.

Wait...are you running MJ8?  Otherwise, just go under the file > library menu and restore library.  I bet you'll find everything there.

A few times I've restarted my server, killing MC's connection to it, and it has deleted all the songs (while back) but the most recent restore worked fine.

Yes I am running MJ8. I tried your suggestion. I looked in the Library Manager. There is only one name in the list. I highlighted it and clicked on restore, but nothing happened. My playlists are still blank. Thanks anyway. I have already restarted ripping my cd's back to the program. If I do this enough times, I should be good at it by the time I'm finished.......lol. So far, this is the second time.......and counting.

Don't Highlight The Files And Hit The Delete Key.

Or you will get the same result

He'd have had to say Yes at least one additional time if that was the case.

Did you try having MJ scan your computer for audio files?  If they're still there and you're re-ripping, you're going to waste a lot of space and end up running out of hard drive space!

Thanks Glynor. I think I did a search, but came up with nothing. If I had gone through a "delete", would it have shown the message box saying "updating database"? I am pretty sure that I didn't hit a delete button. As someone else said, I would have been asked a last time if I was sure I wanted to complete the delete, which I didn't see. Oh well, after going through this, I will know more about MJ8 and maybe won't have to ask anymore stupid questions........lol. Thanks to everyone.

I did that once in DOS when it asked Format Dive C:?, and I hit Yes

I was a bit upset with myself.
