Hi,
Just downloaded a trial version of MC12 because buddy of mine said it rocked !
It does actually!
Except.... the UPNP server in combo with my brand spankin new PS3.
Below is the error log
11/02/07 08:41:11 - Cannot autodetect device, User-Agent: UPnP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.00

I have bad feeling about this one because the PS3 is not in the receiver list of the UPnP options.
Any hints?

The wiki has information on debugging UPnP problems. I don't believe MC specifically supports the PS3 yet, but if you don't mind helping, we can probably get it going. We'll need a "sniff" from a packet sniffer. More info is on the wiki.

Ha,
You are in luck ;D, i'm a programmer myself AND i do traces on customer networks like 3 - 4 times a week, mostly to debug MS-SQL networking issues.
So, What do you need?
* a wireshark tracefile in .trc format of the PS3 trying to connect to the Mediaserver?
* some debug log of the mediaserver (if there is a verboose setting for the server)
* and where do you want those uploaded to?

Just the default wireshark format please. Send it to me at gateley @ jriver.com
Thanks,

The PS3 worked for me with MC12 and UPnP with the advanced UPnP server options "Skip Child Count" and "Experimental DLNA" activated. I could play audio files (MP3 without conversion) with this setting, other file types or formats I did not try.
But after I upgraded my PS3 to the software version 2.0 yesterday UPnP doesn't work anymore. It is still possible to access the server and browse all files but if I try to start playback the PS3 shows a "Media Server" error. What is even more strange is that I can copy selected media files from the MC12 UPnP server to the PS3 hard disk without problems, so the PS3 obviously has full access to the file streams. Because of this I assume that this is a bug in the PS3 firmware.
So if you want to use UPnP with PS3 and MC12 (I haven't tried any other server yet) it would probably be better to avoid upgrading to 2.0.

Send me a sniff - it may be a fixable problem. -- j

It really seems to be a problem with the 2.0 PS3 software. As I found out, other users in the official german PS3 forum report similar problems even with other servers. I only hope that Sony is monitoring it's forums because I couldn't find a way to send a bug report.

I just noticed that the PS3 plays files from another UPnP server (I tried SimpleCenter) without problems, so there must be an incompatibility with MC although it worked with PS3 firmware 1.93. Maybe Sony has fixed something in version 2.x which now causes the problems. I have made a trace with Wireshark, where should I send it?

Thanks.

John, I tried to reach you by email but didn't get a reply. If you would like to continue tracing the PS3 issue please let me know.

Hi, yes, I got it, but haven't had a chance to look at it yet. -- j
