Title: Auto-Import crashes MC
Post by: jens on November 08, 2007, 10:31:35 pm
This worked in 12.0.363. In 12.0.365, the following happens:

1. Choose Run Auto-Import Now from Tools menu, same options as before.

2. Action Window shows that MC is analyzing the library, but before it's done, MC crashes without adding tracks.

3. I removed all auto import folders and re-added them, then ran Auto-Import again a few times which seemed to work.

4. I then added a few more tracks to some folders, ran Auto-Import again and MC crashed again, this time after it added tracks. The summary dialog never came up and the Recently Imported Playlist is empty.

Looks like a related change in 12.0.365 broke something.

One pattern seems to be that MC searches for files about 10 times faster (and it seems like touching fewer files) before it crashes. The successful auto-imports take a lot longer.

Some of us have been seeing similar behavior with the beta builds starting with 365 as well.  Glad to see it's not just us!

For me it is crashing immediately after the Auto-Import finishes, usually before I have a chance to dismiss the "finished" dialog (and sometimes before it displays it).

What options do you have set under Auto-Import?

I have:

Code: [Select]
Auto-Import in Background: Yes and No (depends on machine, crashes happen either way)
Broken Links: Yes (Protect Network Files) -- though it has happened with just "Yes" as well.
Build Thumbs: No
Update for External Changes: No

And, for my individual folders:

Code: [Select]
Ignore previously removed: No
Ignore Special: yes

The appearance of the exception in the log seems somewhat sporadic.  Sometimes it is there, other times it isn't.

I've also seen an occasional crash (since 365) when just writing out tags to files, such as doing an "Update tags from Library" or a "Rename Files from Properties" (and in one repeatable case just manually applying a tag in the Action Window).

I have not been able to run auto import on my server.  It always crashes.  But I can run it fine on any of the client computers which use its data.

Should be fixed in the next public build.  It only happens if auto-import removes files.

Sorry for the hassle.

No problem Matt!  Thanks for working on it!

I can confirm that it appears to be fixed on my system with tonight's beta build.

Great! I thought I was doing something wrong as I'm a newb (first post here). Any time I tried to import files from one of my network drives I got a crash in the system. I'm looking forward to trying the new build tonight.
