i know im a bit old fashioned, but i still have a windows 98 computer (its the only way to get the good dos games working well).
anyway, when trying to install a demo of media center (just recently downloaded) it comes up with an error message half way through the installation. after this corrupt installation, the folder appears under program files, but when i attempt to open the program, it works for 2 seconds, and then has an invalid page fault.
this did not happen when i used the same file to install the same program on to my windows xp computer (that just worked perfectly).
the error message during the installation
-
reads as follows:
"Runtime error!
Program: C:\Windows\Temp\Rarsfx0\installwizard.exe
this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in and unusual way.
please contact the application's support team for more information."
i tried deleting temporary files. i tried uninstalling, shutting down, and reinstalling. nothing works.
PLEASE HELP!
thanks in advance,
Josh

Is it Windows98 SE or is it the "first edition" version?
I think it might require 98SE, but I'm not a developer so I'm not sure at all.
-
No doubt a compatibility issue, but to prepare you for the response you might get from JRiver, keep in mind that even Microsoft no longer supports Windows 98. ;)
End of support for Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows XP Service Pack 1 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/support/endofsupport.mspx)

You know...
I just spent some time wandering around on the MC12 web site (http://www.jrmediacenter.com/) and I couldn't find a defined set of system requirements anywhere. Not on the main page, not under Features & Screenshots, not in the "More Features" section, not in the FAQ, not on the Wiki....
I mean, I couldn't even find anything that addressed what version of Windows is required, much less the video card requirements of Theater View, or CPU/RAM suggestions to get appropriate performance, or a list of what specific list of handhelds work with it.
This needs developed (or posted much more conspicuously) ASAP. Especially with MJ12 (which I would assume would have the same set of requirements). Plus, I'd say that this list (if properly done) could be a marketing asset (that's gonna be a nice list of handhelds, for sure) more than anything!
What's the deal guys?

my windows is windows 98 SE.
the system requirements are advertised as:
SYS Req. 300 MHz Pentium or better, 64 MB RAM, 40 MB Free hard drive space, Microsoft Media Player 6.4 (optional) or higher, for video,
for Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
my computer seems to fit all of those criteria. J river doesn't work on it though...

It's in the help file, I'm not sure if it's out of date or not. I thought I read a post around the time of 11 - 11.1 that said JRiver were dropping support for windows 98, but maybe not as I found windows 98 bugfixes in v11.1 build threads...
System Requirements

32 MB RAM
40 MB Free hard drive space
Sound card
Video card
Microsoft Internet Explorer I.E. 5.0 or above

Soundcard with multiple outputs (for multi-zone playback)

Oh... There it is. Yeah... That is way out of date I'd guess, and in the Help document included with the player (which you wouldn't have if you couldn't install it because you didn't meet the requirements) isn't really adequate. It needs to be at least somewhat accurate and prominently displayed on the main web site.

The only handheld mentioned is just the iPod..
i think there's more but you can only find which ones it wont work on unless you ask.

We believe that MC12 runs on Win98 SE and up.
64bit versions of Windows don't work as well, but it runs.

so then what could be the reason that it has a corrupt installation?
