Title: Syncing is creating duplicate files on my MP3 player
Post by: MDC on November 17, 2007, 01:47:16 pm
Hello All,

I have a Sansa E280 MP3 player and running MC 12.0.329. When I sync, manually or automatically, I end up with another copy of the music on my player each time I sync. I thought syncing should make my player library match my PC library. Its acting more like a transfer or copy vs. a true sync. It does not create duplicate albums, only multiple copies of the music.  Any help or insight to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

The Sansa player has two different modes.  Please try the other (MTP).

Switching to the MTP mode was the correct answer; works just as it should now.  Thank you very much! Mike

Im getting the same problem with my Zen Vision M. How do I change the MTP setting on my player?

On a similar path, could a software switch be added to not overwrite the output? I keep multiple copies, FLAC and MP3. If I select a FLAC that has already been converted, it creates a second.

Or is there a better way to do what I'm doing?

Thanks,
Vin

batman,
Your M is most likely already set to MTP.

V,
Converted Files Cache does just that. Turn it on in handheld options under Conversion.

Thanks for replying, but that only works when you have a handheld (I believe).

I did find a solution using library synch. I have MC12 running on a server. I used a second computer running MC12 and a local library, then did a sync to a new directory (on the server using a mapped drive) where I store my MP3s. This in theory, should work out best. When I add new FLACs, I should be able to run sync and update the MP3 directory on the server.

Thank you for your other suggestion though. When I start using an MP3 player I will use your method.

Vin

Can you explain the situation a for us? When are files getting duplicated? Are you only using MC? Does it happen to all files? Can you post your system information from the Help menu? What firmware are you running on the M? Does the M show up as a drive letter in My Computer?
