What [Album] tag to use when 2 or more albums are re-issued as a box set ?
- Album 1 / Album 2 /Album n ..or same Album tag for all tracks in the box
- Album 1 for the first album, Album 2 for the second, Album n etc ..even tho they would be stored in one directory say Artist A - The Wacky Years, but MC would display 3 unique albums in a pane.
- The Wacky Years (3CD) no mention of which album it is, just the title on the box set

I think that depends a lot on how the box-set is compiled.
If it is just a retail package that includes the previous CD releases in unaltered form I would tag the CDs with original album names as separate albums and perhaps add something like "From xxx Box-set, disc 1" only to the comment or another suitable field.
If it is a new artistic creation that contains edited, remastered and/or bonus tracks, perhaps new cover art and comprehensive liner notes -- i.e. the CDs are previously unreleased versions of the original albums I would add it as a three-disc album with a new common album name and disc numbers and put the CD specific details in the comments.

Thx Alex, its just previous albums boxed together, i think i will rename as original albums.

For the record... I do exactly what Alex said, only I also have a user-created SubAlbum Tag (string type) which I tag with the relevant box set (or vice versa) info.
