Title: Vista, only Sound, no video
Post by: Calisana on November 30, 2007, 02:34:21 am
Hello

I have installed the latest version of Media Center (build 12.0.380) on my new Laptop with Vista business.
I cannot play any video. I have tried mpg and avi (Divx for which I have installed the codec).
After starting a video I can hear the sound, but don't see any picture.

There is no problem if I start the videos with my dvd-player software.

any idea?

best regards
Andreas

This is almost certainly due to a lack of proper decoding filters being installed.  To be clear, if you want to play back a DivX or XviD AVI you do NOT need to have the DivX or XviD codecs installed.  Those packages are best used to create video files, not to play them back.

For playing back video files using a variety of compression types, the best option is FFDSHOW which is included as part of the Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP).  Check this help document out from the JRiver wiki: http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/DirectShow_Playback_Guide
