A search revealed that an MJ update would dl a divx decoder but that is not happening for me. I still get the message "decoder not available" (or similar) when trying to play a divx movie.
Somebody had pointed to www.divx.com but all I see avail for dl is a divx pro decoder app that contains adware/GAIN and I don't want that. So again, *exactly* what do I need to play divx movies?

This somebody points you to the right direction. You _have_ to download the divx5-package (its a big thing and does not look like a sole codec). In this package you'll find a video-decoder-codec, that every windows media application should be able to use. So should MJ.
Here you can download!

Just get "Divx" (free), not "Divx pro" (free/adware or $30). This version does not contain the GAIN software.

Markeaux,
Just install the codec (follow the link above) and MJ will be able to play DivX files.

Just for info : MJ plays very well XviD format (ripped with Neodivx) and quality is nearly the same as DivX 5.02.

But when I go to http://www.divx.com/divx/ under the 3 packages there is only one Download button under the DivX Pro w/ Adware - the other packages on the left and right do not have Download buttons (nor does a mouse hover show anything there). It's been like this every time I visit that page.

DOH! Never mind ... I now see the button had to be selected before hitting Download ...

I have downloaded a cracked copy of DivX
I know it...lol...a cracked copy of a once illegal format!
