Title: DVD doesn't output on the big screen?
Post by: raldo on December 17, 2007, 05:24:40 am
Hi,

I have a laptop (Acer) which is connected to a 40inch flatscreen over VGA.

When playing DVDs, the video doesn't show on the bigscreen, only when I move the display to the laptop screen.

Any ideas?

It is due to overlay settings in your Video Card drivers.  By default, most video cards (especially those in laptops) only display accelerated video on the primary display (in your case the laptop's LCD panel).  What kind of video card does that laptop have?  You want to look in the  drivers for something called "Clone Mode Options" or something similar and set it to show video as "Same on All".

One thing that could help possibly is simply enabling VMR9 mode, instead of Overlay (legacy) mode.  This might make the CPU usage higher when you play DVDs, but it could fix the problem without having to dig around in the driver's video settings.  In MC go to Tools --> Options --> Playback --> Video --> DVD Playback Settings and change Video Renderer to Video Mixing Renderer 9.
