need help about two things
Converting
I have few audio books in m4a bitrate 64.
my player does not play it.
I would like to convert it to MP3.
Important to me to get a confortable listening- size is less important [ well to a point - Convert it to FLAC , not an answer] ;)
What is the best mp3 bitrate in this case ?
Convertion keeps tags or not ?
Riping
Got few audio books on cd at junk shop
I would like to made MP3 from it
What is the best bitrate to use to get confortable listening ?
No echoe , no 'metallic' effect
Thank you
Happy New Year to all

Voice audio in MP3 --- 64kbps would be more than adequate. 32 bits is quite satisfactory for most voice audio.
Try 'em both and see which bit-rate you like the best.
Cheers,
Fred :D

I recommend Lame with V8 setting.

Everything depends on the source :)
If the source for the files you want to convert was tape or record (If you don't know, listen for sound artifacts; pops, hisses & distortion), then I'd always keep the bitrate as high as possible. I'd normally store tape rips in 192kbps VBR.
CD rips I normally store in 128kbps VBR, but they can quite happily go down to 64kbps VBR with very little effect, although this does depend on the reader & the amount of music/ SFX in the production. As a rule though, unless you've got serious space problems I'd avoid going below 128kbps VBR, as you will loose some bits, although this does depend on your perception ;)
Audiobook here addict anyway, about 250gb or so ATM, various bitrates.
