Title: UPNP Problem DSM 320
Post by: notzippy on January 11, 2008, 07:28:31 pm
Hi

When I use MC12 as a Upnp server the port that it connects to my DSM320 keeps incrementing, I think this is why occasionally my MC12 peeks the CPU for periods of time (causing the streaming of video to halt). When I use TVersity to stream video I do not see the connection port changing.

Any ideas as to why this might be ?

Thanks
z

The pausing is on my list of things to test, haven't gotten to it yet.
The port number increasing is normal.

I have the same problem also. I am usin two DSM-320's and one DSM-520. All are hardwired. The 320's seem to hang 6-8 times during playback of a 50 minute avi file. The 520 works flawlessly. I have only obeserved this since switching from (and uninstalling) the Dlink server.

I'll try anything.

I was just looking at this today, hadn't gotten to trying the 520 yet.

I'm not sure how much I can do with this, but I'm looking.

Just so you know, I use the built-in profile for the 320 on both the 320 & 520 and it appears to work fine (except for the locking). Any tweaks to that profile you might suggest. I'd be happy to lab them out for you.

The issue is most likely related to the DSM and not MC12. As far as I know MC12 transcodes audio files but not video files and the DSM is notorious for video file issues. As much as I hate switching between programs, I run Tversity on my HTPC for only streaming video files to my two DSM-320s. Audio and Picture files are better left to MC12. I know this is not the best answer but it has been the best workaround for my files until I am able to replace those DSMs with real HTPCs. However, as they are in the garage and the kids playroom (2 and 4 years old), I am in no hurry to replace them.
