I've created several simple smart lists--five stars, jazz, for example-- but nothing populates the lists. Any advice?

open one of your smart lists for editing, click on the import/export button and then copy and paste what you see there into your next post.

Here's One:
[Genre]=[Folk Rock],[Folk-Rock],[Oldies],[Rock],[Rock and Roll],[Rock//Pop],[Surf Rock] [Rating]=five
and another
[Genre]=[General Jazz;Jazz;Jazz Vocals] [Rating]=five [Filename]=[Five Star Jazz Smartlist] ~s=1000 ~sort=
Thanks

[rating] can only be a number value between 0 and 5. Text, as in Five instead of 5 will always return an empty list. This same error occurrs in both smartlists.
The Jazz rule has a filename specification in there that is not right: [Filename]=[Five Star Jazz Smartlist]
This tells MC to only return files that have a complete filename that exactly matches Five Star Jazz Smartlist
[Filename] refers to the actual address of the files on your hard drive, including the file extension, C:\Music\Jazz\Jazz Album\Jazz track.mp3 for example, so you will need to remove that altogether. What were you expecting that [filename] rule to do for you?

I made the changes you suggested, but the lists are still empty. I think the larger problem may have to do with installation. I am using version 12.0.422.

Thanks, but I've switched out of party mode. I've gone back and forth and it doesn't work either way.

Both of the smartlists you posted are invalid. [Rating]=five and [Filename]=[Five Star Jazz Smartlist] will never have hits.
Try making a new smartlist using the wizard.
