I bought e new computer with Vista Premium and Windows Media Center on it.
I try to play a file with DVR-MS extension on the MC12. (version 12.0.410)
I get no video, but the sound is allright.
Can anybody help me on this?
Ben Visser.

Most likely it is a video decoder issue. Do you know what video format is in the file? DVR-MS is just a container, which may contain different video formats. Can you play it in Windows Media Player?
-
Is there a way what Video Format is in the file, or a program to check the format?
I don't know what format it has right now.
I can watch TV, I can hear the sound from the Video file, but see no pictures.
Yes, I can watch the video file perfectly in Windows Media Player.

One way is to use G-Spot. Find info about G-Spot here (http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/DirectShow_Playback_Guide#Additional_Useful_DirectShow_Tools).
Another way is to use Windows Media Player, since you are able to play the file in it. While WMP is playing, right click the file title in the Now Playing area, and choose Properties. The resulting window should tell you what audio and video filters are used to render the file.
-
Do you have Nero installed? Chances are the "Nero video codec" is getting used. I also have the same problem if I allow this codec to be loaded for dvr-ms playback. Get rid of it!

I have done what you said, and the video filter says 'Decrypt/Tag 0001'

I have not installed Nero or any other program. Only MC12 and Roxio Creator Home (came with the computer)

It appears that WMP did not report the correct filter. You will need to use G-Spot to figure out what filter would render the video.

Even if you did not install it, it may have come with your computer.
Try playing the file in MC. While MC is playing, right-click in the display window and choose DirectShow Filters -> Copy graph Info to clipboard. Then come here and reply this thread. Use Edit -> Paste to paste the info.

The video decoder "Sonic Cinemaster® VideoDecoder 4.1" is in the graph but is not connected to "JRiver Bitrate Monitor filter" as it should. There are two things you can try:
1. Disable "JRiver Bitrate Monitor filter".
2. Select a different video decoder.
You do both of these by going to Tools -> Options -> Playback -> DirectShow playback settings ...
On the resulting window, select "dvr-ms" from the list of media types played in DirectShow, and click Select Filters. On "Select Filters" window, you can uncheck "JRiver Bitrate Monitor". You can also check another video decoder (if one is available - such as Cyberlink Video Decoder, or NVIdia Video Decoder, etc.). See this guide (http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/DirectShow_Playback_Guide#Advanced_DirectShow_Configuration_in_MC12) for details.
If you can not find a suitable video decoder, you should consider installing CCCP. The details can be found here (http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/DirectShow_Playback_Guide#CCCP_-_Combined_Community_Codec_Pack).

Nothing works
I have tried several different filters that looks like Video Decoder.
And I have about 150 to choose
Installed Gspot and on the Video information it says
Codec: DVR
Name: <unknown>
Satus: Codec Status Undetermined
Len: 59:45.75
Kbps 80696
pic 720 x 480
sar 1.500 (3:2)
On Container it says:
File Type: ASF (WMA/WMV)
Mime Type: Video/x-ms-asf
Further no relevant information.
I tried to put a print screen from gspot in this message, but was unable to get it done.
Enough information with this?
Is there a way to make a copy of all the available filters I have, and put it in this message?
Ben Visser.

In G-Spot, click the "1" button under MS A/V, in lower left corner, like this:

-
Also, did you install CCCP? It is very useful for playing of most videos.

I did not yet install CCCP.
At this moment I have this nice clean new computer, and I trie to keep it this way.
If there is no other option, I will install waht You say.
But first I trie to do it with nothing installed.
Ben.

The graph appears to be rendered. I do not understand why it says "partial failure". If this graph is built as it shows, MC should be able to play it (at least when "JRiver Bitrate Monitor" is not added to graph).
Does it play in G-Spot when you click on "2" button?
-
Yes, it plays well with picture and sound
-
Yes, it plays well with picture and sound
Then you should be able to play in MC using the same filters.
Go to "Choose DirectShow Filters" window, and uncheck "JRiver Bitrate Monitor" and check "Sonic Cinemaster® VideoDecoder 4.1". Check nothing else.
Also try using a different video renderer. Try, in order, "Enhanced Video Renderer", "Legacy Video Renderer", "Video Mixing Renderer 7", and "Video Mixing Renderer 9".
-
No,
Nothing works.
It doesn't change at all. I have tried all different settings.
The source filter is 'StreamBufferSorce'
Good that be any problem?
-
Solved the problem.
I have clicked on the option:
'Use Windows Media Player engine for video plaback when possible'
Thanks Yaobing for all the support.

Just thought I'd mention... The Sonic decoders are part of their CD/DVD Building suite, and back when I had it installed, it caused all kinds of MPEG-2 playback problems for me (they seemed to ignore whatever priority I set for them manually and just kept ending up being the "preferred" MPEG-2 decoder). I ended up removing the whole DVD building suite (and just sticking to Nero and DVD Studio Pro) and a bunch of the problems went away.
