Is it possible to use a different media player to play video files selected from Theatre View?
I'm thinking the likes of BS Player Pro (which has network buffering playback) work much MUCH better playing video files over my network, but the interface or tagging facilities aren't as nice or readable as MC. I'd like to use both in tandem if possible. BS Player Pro has a command line interface - so is it possible to get MC to launch BS Player Pro when I select a video to play in Theatre View?

I experimented with this a little bit with mixed success. I was trying it with audio and winamp, though. I was trying to see if I could use Theater View to browse my music but then take advantage of winamp's vizualizations (I'm in love with Milkdrop and Smoke, what can I say?)
What I did first was to associate the filetypes I was interested in with winamp. Then, from within MC, I selected all of the files I wanted winamp to play and set their Media Type to Data. This causes MC to open the files with the default app. In this case it was Winamp, and sure enough it worked! Sort of. Winamp would receive only the first file I had selected, so I could never queue up an entire album or otherwise select a list of files.
I only played with it for a couple of hours, but it was interesting to see what you could accomplish by setting the Media Type to Data.

I use MC to launch all my vdeos in TheaterTek using the method that Doof mentioned. It works great.

You guys are hurting MC's feelings.

Doof - thanks for that, I'll give it a try! :)
Matt - don't be sad about it. MC works great for most things - but the lack of network capability for video is a bit of a showstopper for me. I don't want to throw MC away, but it's getting mighty close because of that. Others seem to have no problem - but I'm not one of those lucky enough to have a Gigabit network to play with. :'(

I'm still using TheaterTek for DVDs for the following reasons:
1) I paid too much for it (I bought it because MC had really bad tearing problems on my GeForce7600GS, it doesn't now)
2) I have to install it anyway to get the bundled nvidia decoders installed
3) I can control the Deinterlace properties of the nvidia decoders from my remote (Film, Automatic, Smart, ...)
4) I can set the start point for each DVD from my remote
5) The Video doesn't change size when someone bumps the mouse
6) I can configure it to always play the DTS audio track if it exists
7) The interface is just prettier (sorry)

If some kind and talented soul could take a look into porting Milkdrop to MC, I promise I'll stop. Ryan released the source code to v1 a while back... ;)

I would also like to have MC to launch a external video player when a video is selected. I tried making the changes described by Doof and mojave, but it does not work for me. Evidentley I am doing something wrong. When I try to play the video I get a message saying to check the file path. Can I get some help on this? Thanks

Well.. kind of 'refreshing' to hear I am not the only one who'd rather have a different player than MC, since those other ones seem to produce better results (...hopefully only a matter of time until MC has caught up, right...?) In the meantime, I'd like to try other options...
Doof, I was trying to follow your instructions:
What I did first was to associate the filetypes I was interested in with winamp.
==>OK, no problem. Done.
Then, from within MC, I selected all of the files I wanted winamp to play and set their Media Type to Data.
=> How would I do that, please??

It's one of the library fields you can set in the Tag Action Window.

I'd stop using BS Player if MC would pause when I pressed the space bar.
