I've got some video files (mostly home made .avi from a camcorder) that constantly make my client (XBMC) buffer so I think I need to transcode them so that they're lighter on the hardware. I have tried some DVD rips and they've mostly worked flawlessly.
Can anybody recommend some software (ideally free) that I could use to do a one off copy of my videos in a streaming friendly format?
If I'm barking up the wrong tree, please let me know!
