Tools -> Options -> Theater View -> Under "Items to show" select "Playlists", and then click "Remove".

?

I think we are talking about

Home > Playing Now

http://pix01.com/2L@dE4K

and you would like to have the bottom half of the screen to fill the entire screen.

If so, then try clicking the "Big Screen " button ( highlited for you) on left

or use shift/f11 to toggle between Big Screen and View Schemes.

Hope this helps

I wanted to do this too..what I did was open up C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\FullSkins\Shared\Base 1.xml with a text editor and change the line

<Item Name="PIP" Placement="Bottom" Size="49.5%" Crop="1%" />

to...

<Item Name="PIP" Placement="Bottom" Size="70.5%" Crop="1%" />

Now I just have 4 songs showing in the "playing now" list.

Probably a good idea to make a backup of "Base 1.xml" first though.
