Hi,
Apart from going into the filter preference for each file type, is there a way of selecting your global Video Render preference like you can with the Audio Renderer? By default I always get VMR9 & I want to change the default to EVR.
Thanks
Nathan

You can not. However, soon I will change default to EVR whenever it is available as it does seem to be better.

Yup - I think it looks better but not sure if it is more prone to "tearing"

Some global way to manage this would be useful. Some sort of "force all DirectShow file types to use <combobox choice>" checkbox would be swanky.

Is EVR Vista only or does it work on XP as well?

EVR (Enhanced Video Renderer) is a component of the Media Foundation architecture of Vista (effectively DirectShow 10), and is essentially just a continuation of the VMR7/VMR9 line. It is Windows Vista only. From Wikipedia:
The existing DirectShow technology is intended to be replaced by Media Foundation step-by-step, starting with a few features. For some time there will be a co-existence of Media Foundation and DirectShow. Media Foundation will not be available for previous Windows versions, including Windows XP.
They will co-exist until Vista adoption levels rise substantially above those of older operating systems... So, effectively forever. ;)

I read somewhere recently that upgrading an XP machine to include .net 3.x will "enable" EVR. I found this curious so I tried it and sure enough, it works but for my money, VMR7/9 looks better on my systems...
