Why does any connection to Amazon, i.e., to buy MP3s or to look up CD info result in a message saying that this function requires an internet connection? My internet connection is fine and, in fact, the Amazon page appears briefly before the error message appears. how do I make reliable contact with Amazon from MJ12. I am using Vista. Thanks.
At Alex B's suggestion I told the Windows Firewall to make an exception for MJ12. Still MJ12 cannot get CD info from Amazon about the CD or the artist. Instead it shows me, very briefly, the Amazon page and then a a screen saying that and internet connection is required for this function. When I completely turned off Windows Firewall I got the same result. Is there a setting within MJ12 that I am missing? Again, thanks.

It is probably a firewall issue. Do you use Vista firewall or some other program? Have you checked the firewall configuration options?
-
Having same issue here. if firewall (zonealarm) completely shut down I get exact same results. have added amazon to IE's list of allowed sites to prevent any privacy issues. I am able to use IE to access and purchase music so I guess the activation of amazon mp3 downloader for use with IE is not the issue. any clues?

Maybe you're outside the U.S. and Amazon blocks you?
-
within U.S. here though. :-\
amazon mp3 store pages load fine within MC except when accessing CD detail then the page loads entirely to be quickly replaced by the message mentioned :"this feature requires an internet connection"
Thanks again.

Please give more details and examples of how it fails in MC. It's working for me.
Copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here.

Thanks a bunch, here we go

while browsing mp3 store within MC, main page is displayed with no problems, if I follow links to genre / artist everything is in order, I 'm able to listen to samples and life is good. If I go into CD detail pages I am usually able to see a portion of the page which is then quickly replaced with the message "this feature requires an internet connection". Also, after running a search I am able to see a list of search results but trying to access those results causes the same issue. I hope that didn't sound confusing.
Thanks again

I still can't see a problem. I'm not sure what you mean by "CD Details". I just clicked on a couple of CD's and saw the list of tracks for each. I suppose that's what you did.
I also did a search for "Joan Baez", then clicked on Bob Dylan/Joan Baez. No problem.
What happens if you use IE to do the same?
-
everything works fine if I use IE. I guess my problem is that I cannot do what you did, which is to look at the list of tracks for CDs, or preview or purchase for that matter. do you think there is something I am missing on my MC setup?
Thanks
-
I don't know what to think.
I'm using 12.0.456. It's on the MC12 board here. You could try it.
Unless it's our bug, and I don't think it is at this point, the most likely cause is some security related program running on your PC. It would be worth trying another PC if you have one.

When you shut ZoneAlarm down did you check that Windows Firewall
didn't reinstate instate itself in the background?
I've been setting up some laptops recently and noticed when uninstalling
McCaffee Windows Firewall automatically took charge.
-
k, will update and will prob be able to get my hands on a laptop. Will try that also and keep you posted.
Just tried with zone alarm down and double checked for services running in the background. No luck.
I am behind a dsl router/modem unit. do you think it might have something to do with ports?
Thanks
-
The router, modem is not normally a problem, but anything is possible.
Disabling Zone Alarm isn't necessarily enough. We've seen problems with it even in that state. Uninstalling, rebooting would be a better test, but I know that may not be the best for you.
Any other security-anything installed?
There is a "Weird Problems" link in my signature. I'm guessing this one may end up there. You could take a look there for ideas.

do you block any ad sites in your hosts file? I know I added
127.0.0.1 spe.atdmt.com
127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net
127.0.0.1 stats.wired.com
127.0.0.1 w.sharethis.com
127.0.0.1 xads.zedo.com
in mine, and when I comment those out, Amazon and AllMusic show up. For AllMusic, I think it has embedded ads that fail to load, and MJ thinks the entire page has failed.
