I have around 6500 mp3s and notice quite in increase in memory usage as time goes. When it starts up, it only uses around 2 mb RAM. After 12 hours it uses 54 mb and after 1 day it passes 120 mb. I guess this will just increase more and more, which will be quite a problem for me, as my server already have slowdowns when it uses the 120 mb. Is this normal behaviour?

This is not normal.
Do you have any plugins running? Visualizations, DSP, Interface, etc.
What if you manually switch tracks a lot of times?
What does memory usage do if you restore and minimize again after it has drifted up?
Thanks.

I only have uPNP running for plugins. I have only heard 5 songs or so for testing purposes. I shut it down and started it again, but it still eats RAM like crazy after 12 hours even though I haven't even used the program.
By restoring and minimizing do you just mean the window itself? I'll try that.

I am seeing similar behavior. I haven't started any trouble shooting to isolate the problem and monitor its increase.
I too see it MC start low then grow to about 50Mbs in just a few minutes of Library activity. However, before I restarted it to notice this behavior it was at about 256MB of memory. Windows was notifying me that it had to increase Virtual.
To my knowelge I am only running Library Server and no other 3rd party.
What should be normal behavior for memory usage?
I am on MC473 and have about15-20K songs and more in video and images.

Virus checker?
-
I am running Norton 2008. Should I shut it off to trouble shoot? How does that affect MC Memory usage?
-
If you have your virus checker checking every file every time it's opened or if it's checking every read or write to the registry or MC's library, I believe you might see something similar.
We see a lot of problems with over-eager virus checkers.
-
Thanks! I will check that out. Seems when I saw the 256MB I had just added a rather large folder of audio files that MC was adding to the Library.
-
Jim, I notice that MC 12 starts very promptly and is immediately responsive. After a moment there seems to be a lot of disk activity. Is MC loading library info into RAM?

A lot of things can happen in the background.
Audio analysis
Enumeration of devices (first 30 to 60 seconds) to discover iPods, etc.
Thumbnailing
Auto-import
Podcasts
probably more I'm not thinking about.

Task Manager show a stable 16mb for me...
