Running build 12.0.451
I'm trying to burn a selection of tracks to a Data CD. The tracks are in FLAC format and I'm converting them to MP3. I don't do this often however It's worked fine in the past.
I can watch the ISO file being built in the temp folder. When finished MC starts to write then fails. I get different errors for different computers and drives.. It appears to complete the ISO image and fails at the writing stage.
PC1
Asus DVD Burner - Illegal mode for this track
NEC DVD Burner - Logical Block Address Out Of Range
PC2
Asus DVD Burner - Unknown Error. Device Codes: 5,48,6
Plextor DVD Burner - Logical Block Address Out Of Range
I've tried different tracks in each configuration. I consistently get the same error for each drive. Creating Audio CD's works fine.
Both PC's have Windows XP PRo SP2

Anyone have an idea here? Shall I report this in the current build (451) thread ?

I am merely bumping your thread. Personally I don't have data CD burning problems.
I just burned an MP3 data CD from FLAC files. MC created a 670 MB ISO image in the temp location and burned the CD without any problems. The ISO file was correctly deleted after the process was finished.
I have asked if MC12 could optionally just create an ISO file and let the user try some other burning application or burn the ISO on another PC when direct burning has a problem for some reason. Possibly that option could help you. However, it is not available (-- yet, I hope.)
Have you tried to burn data CDs without conversion? This would tell if the data CD burning part works at all. (You can use a rewritable disc for avoiding coasters.)

Hey Alex, thanks for the response (and bump)..
No I haven't tried doing it without conversion but I'll set it up and see what happens.. I didn't try that because I know of no CD player that will play FLAC CD's.. (that'd be sweet though).
The ISO is being deleted and I wondered why I couldn't grab it and try to burn it using another tool (Nero). But when it's deleted it's not sent to the Recycle bin so I have been unable to recover it to try that. That would be a nice option, to have an "image device" ilo the actual drive to write to.
I tried it with 658MB worth of files and again with only 3 files. Same error messages. No data is actually being written so the CD's are not ruined. It's obviously failing after the conversion is finished but before it writes anything to the disc.
As I stated, this has worked fine in the past. I tried it on 2 computers and both have problems with it. If there's any kind of logging I could post I would be glad to do so.

You could first convert the files to MP3 and then try to burn them as a separate process.

JohnT (from JRiver), what do you suggest?

Not much luck..
I was able to burn FLAC files directly with no conversion. That worked. I was able to burn a few WMA files, converting them from FLAC to WMA.. But when trying to burn a whole disc of them it failed. The strange thing about trying WMA is that it appeared to be burning the disc and the progress bar went all the way to the end, sat there a sec, and then the same error occured. Looing at the disc afterwards and there's nothing on it.
I converted a bunch of files to MP3 with MC, created a new library and imported them and tried to burn them directly, same error..
I took those same newly created MP3 files and burned them to CD using NERO with no problems..
I'm stumped..

Did you try burning just a few files? It's possible that the space calculation may not be accurate.

Sorry for the troubles you're experiencing, please send a log file following a failed burn. Just checkmark "Help/Logging/Output to a log file", then attempt a burn, then go back to the logging dialog and and do "click to email log files" to johnt at jriver dot com.
Before doing the log file, try a test at 4X burn speed to see if that makes any difference.

I got the unknown error with device code 5,43,5 on aUSB burner when trying to burn a largemount of data to a dvd (transcoding to mp3). I'm doin moretesting nowwith other drives.

MP3 encoder setting is not being applied; I'm ending up with the original source files (lossless) on my data burns.
This could be part of your problem. I get the same failure, at the same point; maybe something with the size of the iso of transcoding options are being ignored.
