It more than likely would, yes.

The find and replace tool is very intuitive to use once you open it.
The best way to see is to pick one file to begin with and see what happens. If you're happy, select them all and repeat.

Personally, I don't bother with either and keep the album name the same, using MC's [disc #] field to track that information instead. If you then file them away into [album]\[disc #]\ folders, you'll retain valid [complete album] statistics too.
Alex is even more meticulous on this subject and he has a post or two describing his system around here somewhere. I don't have links handy, but I'm sure Alex does...

WolfWalker,

What did you try exactly?

Are the "disk 1" etc text strings in the album field or somewhere else?
You need the tick the correct library field in the tool's options.

The tool may get confused if it tries to find a text string in the numeric "Disc #" field.

You should do the change in separate steps.

1. Find and Replace
- Tick only the album field
- Find what: disc 1
- Replace: cd 1
You'll need to do this for all variants of "disc 1" separately (disc1, disc 1, disk 1, etc).

2. Select a view that shows all audio files and do a search: [Album]="cd 1"
Check the search results, select all files that you want to tag and type the number 1 in the Disc # field.
