mc is such a huge piece of software that can do so much it probably feels very overwhelming to new users and certainy would be users. while i think j river has done a great job offering help for people, i think ripping off apple might not be a bad idea here. i remember when they launched the iphone they put up like a 4 to 7 minute trailer about what it was capable of doing. i think a similar video for j river media center would be fantastic. if it is too time consuming to create, maybe some seasoned veteran users would put something like this together :)

I nominate Benn600 :o
Seriously, though, if the resources could be directed to it, it'd be a great promotional tool.

This is a VERY good idea.

I've actually been thinking how cool it would be to start doing a "MC Tips and Tricks" video podcast. I've never done a podcast before, but it could be fun.
If somebody were to do this, what topics would make good "How-To" videos for MC?
-
Our Wiki index (http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/Category:Frequently_Asked_Questions) might make a good starting point.
It would be nice to have a lot of 60 second videos made by users. We'd host them and make a podcast. Pix01.com can also accept videos and will convert them to Flash.

The iPhone is a unique hardware. MC is software of which there are many similar available.

The really hard part is how to convey the impression that MC is better than the competition ?
You have to pick a few features and spin them. But then your putting your eggs on a few items right :)
It also requires MC to be a lot more sexier!...thats what ppl see first.
The best way i think that gives MC a fighting chance is to download and try it out, this way it answers questions, in real time, that makers of said video never could have foreseen.
That Jukebox is free is a big step in channeling ppl to MC. It takes away the argument that its not free :)at least for the audio part, which for most was the reason to use MC anyway
At this point it either hits you or it does not. There *has* to be some missing link in your current setup to appreciate what MC can do.
I try to 'pimp' MC every chance i get and what i've found is ppl need to be at a certain point where MC makes sense to them. This may mean having a largish collection and therefore needing to transition from a filename based approach to a tags based approach otherwise you only prolong the pain.
Going tags based means loads of data entry, thats a real turn off to some ppl, especially if a sensible file naming convention was not chosen to begin with.maybe the recent thread on sharing info is the right step to address this
I'm still trying to understand what besides the above 2 requirements turns ppl onto MC.

That's a common misconception. The last time we asked, a minority (39.7%) used MC for audio only. Here's the poll (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=42725.0).

I agree wholeheartedly.
If we were to start doing this, what would be the most logical way to start? Should we just submit them to you guys or just create our own Pix01 galleries and then link to them from the wiki?

Start with one called "I Am Doof" and explain why. Let us know when it's done and where it is.

I think somewhere around Interact is a post where I explained all of that. :P

I think It Has Something To Do With The Tag "Farmer Animal Stupid"

Hmmm... he's been suspiciously quiet of late....

How does one record a screencast?
And should it be a voiced demo? If so, I think somebody with a thick Dutch, German, Polish or (even worse) Danish dialect should do the voicing. That will certainly make video seem professional :)
Either way, it is a good idea. Personally, I do not have patience for videos, but I have heard of this YouTube thing, which, apparently, should be quite popular. . . :D

I've worked on this in the past. It is a lot of work to script out what you are going to say (though putting it together isn't that hard if you have the tools).
If only I had the time...
So many projects, so few brain cells left.

He's not been active for over a week...
I wonder if he's taking my holiday to a cottage without internt access idea?
Either that or the twin VDSL 2+ connections coming into his home have
burnt out. :(
