Title: Disable Timeshift
Post by: bman1127 on March 22, 2008, 07:20:41 pm
New to the forum. Just started using the product. Like it so far. Have done searches on timeshifting to find out more info on how it works and have also noticed delays with switching channels etc...Don't really need it. Is there a way to disable it permanently so I do not have to do each each time I start my HTPC? Thanks in advance.

For digital channel, there is an option under TV Options -> Digital TV, "Start Digital TV in Time-shifting Mode". It is on by default. You can uncheck it so time-shifting is not started.

For analog TV time-shifting is not on by default.

Have you tried the latest build? The channel switching during time-shifting for digital channel is now much faster. The channel switching speed should no longer be an issue. The change was made in Build 452.

Thanks for the quick reply. Found the setting to turn it off. I will download the new build tomorrow and try it out. Thanks again.

Is this option still available? I can't find a way to disable time-shift.

The option is no longer available.  You can still stop time-shifting after it has been started, by right-click menu.

No trouble, but there's no need to force the hard disk to continuously record for casual TV watching. Also, if HD (DVB-S2 in my case) is supported in the future, disabling timeshift would prevent from eating away disk space (SD MPEG-2 channels eat plenty of disk space, too). Also, when working on disk-intensive tasks (e.g. copying large files) it's not wise to add extra load on the disk (if watching TV at the same time I mean).

Fair point. I just burned my SATA ports and had to RMA my MoBo. SandyBridge bug. Only had the optical drive on the affected ports though so nothing to do with the HD!

Any hope for this sensible option to make a comeback?
