Hi There,
I have searched but obviously without the right keywords so pls either help with a search string or if this is new then hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I took the plunge and re-ripped all my music to APE and have never looked back. A minor niggle though is that using the convert format for sending files to iPods / CD's etc works just fine - I'd like however to be able to do a once off export of all my music to an external HHD in MP3 format at a lowish bit rate (maybe 192k) - I recon I might just be able to "squeeze" all my music onto a 500GB external drive which would be great for portability of my music whilst my "libary" stays at home safe and sound on it's RAID drives. I figure I want to plug the drive in before I go to bed at night and push the button to let MC run all night if required converting once off to extrenal / different media but leave my lossless APE files right where they are. I can then refresh this export say every month or so and always have an instant ready to go low bit rate copy of my libary. Is this possible? Cheers, Mitch

I think the new file "stacking" system is intended to be able to do what you asked, but the feature may not be fully reliable yet. At least it is not documented.
Maybe the JRiver developers could tell if the stack feature can be used.
Alternatively, you can create a new "virtual" HandHeld on the external drive and sync the files with conversion.

Thanks Alex, I know nothing about this "virtual" HandHeld but will start searching - sounds like the ticket! Many thanks, Mitch

Just some feedback - Virtual drive works fine :) Problem is that 600+ GB of APE files takes a long time (was still running 15hrs later on a quad core... :o) and worse MC bombed out sometime after that ? PC seemed responsive with all other apps so rebooted and tried again with same result. I guess it's a bit job to run and I'm not stressed about this. If anyone from development would like me to send some log files or run this again under instruction to capture results can happily do so if investigation is required. anyhow as i said, no big deal - I only need to get this right once every 3 months or so. :-\ Cheers, Mitch
