I have synced some photos (jpg) to the iPod but they will not show. I tried syncing some through iTunes and those show fine but the ones that MC transfers will not show. I get the thumbnails but if I select them all I get is a blank screen. I have no trouble viewing album art in music files transferred through MC.
I have MC set to convert all pictures to 320x240 but I have also tried with 200x176 (custom) and 640x480.
Ipod Classic 80
MC 12.0.465

Ditto. I get the same thing happening on my iPod touch. The thumbnails show up blank on mine too.
-
edbro,
Are you running the latest firmware (don't use MC's firmware updater for your classic)?
You shouldn't need to do any image conversion for iPods.

iPod firmware 1.1.1
I tried syncing a small image and telling MC to not convert but I got the same result. Good thumbnail but black screen if I try to view it. Pictures loaded from iTunes work well.

Does MC correctly recognize the iPod as a classic? What is the last three digits of the serial number?
You may have to Initialize the iPod in MC or restore it in iTunes...
-
I'm at work so I don't have the serial numbers handy. Yes, MC recognizes the iPod as a Classic. But, this is a problem that has been around since .450. I now see others reporting it:

I know that I have reset the iPod since that build as I did it after the daylight savings bug was introduced. http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=45536.0 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=45536.0)

If you remove all photos from the iPod and only sync them with MC do you still see the problem?
-
I have been reporting this problem as well. I have restored in itunes. I even downgraded my ipod classic firmware. It just will not work in MC, but it will if I use itunes.

Yes

We can't reproduce the problem with our Classic and are stumped. If you are comfortable navigating the registry, can you export the following registry key and email it to (rick at jriver dot com).
Navigate to...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 12\Portable Devices\Detected Devices\
Right-click on Detected Devices, click Export and save to "Devices.reg", email me the file.
Thanks

OK, I have the registry file as requested. What's your email addy?
Duh! Never mind, I re-read your post and saw it.
Sent!

I still can not view pics on the iPod. I loaded MC 12.0.481 and initialized the iPod once again. I transferred 3 photos and was able to view them. Yay! I went back and transferred a few more. Now I can't view any of them, even the ones I was initially able to see. The thumbnails show fine but the pics themselves just show a black screen.

edbro,
Did you sync anything with iTunes (or even run it with your iPod connected) from the point when images worked to the point when they no longer did?
Rick

No.

Is there any news in this area?
I synced my iPod Classic 160Gb. Songs and Coverart works fine.
Pictures seem to sync, but i see black thumbs and black pictures.
The amount of thumbs is correct, but is does not show anything.
-
I got it working.
I had a look with the Vista File Explorer at the iPod.
Moste of the pictures were not showing anything because they were empty.
I deleted the Photodatabase in the photos-directory and all the files in the Full Resolution and Thumbs directory.
I re-synced with a few photos.
They al showed up in the explorer, including a new databse and thumbs files.
I ejected the iPod and tried it. It works.
Now I am going to sync the other 7000 pictures and see what happens.

I forgot to mention that I got messages from Vista indicating something was wrong with the filestructure on the iPod. First I ignored it, but later I let it check and repair. It came up with inconsistencies in the photos directory. That's why i went in deeper via the explorer.
Now things seem to work, the message also does not appear anymore. I am almost sure these things are connected: the message from visat and the fact that the pictures did not show up.
Currently I am transferring al the other pictures ............ ;)

I had high hopes reading that but it didn't work for me. I went into the photo directory and deleted everything. I also ran chkdsk on the drive but it found no errors. After synching some new photos with build .490, I still get only black screens. Good thumbnails but black screen when selected.

Sorry to hear that. There is a difference in our situations. You have good thumbs, i did not. They were also black.
Did you also delete the photodatabase?
-
edbro,
Are you running the latest firmware? Also, make sure when you try DP's deleting trick that you delete all files and folders in the Photos folder. For Album Art problems you will have to Initialize the iPod and resync.
Rick
Thanks for all the feedback, DP.

Black thumbs... This happens to me INside Media Center. Some pictures will simply not show either thumb or the actual image itself, though the actual images are all good when I view them on the hard disk.
