Title: MC12 cannot detect video codec
Post by: monsterman on April 02, 2008, 10:01:45 am
Run Mc12 with CCC codec installed. :)
Today it suddenly prompt me that DVD codec is not installed and a screen saying to buy and install "Intervideo DVD codec for XP". ?
I reinstall MC12 again and also CCC codec, reboot but with no success. Its still prompt me to install a valid video codec to play back DVD files.

This seems to happen quite often. I really think MC12 interface is really cool but all these problems stops me from enjoying this program. Pls advice how to resolve this.

Thanks

You need a MPEG2 decoder to play back DVD's. It is not included in Windows XP. I do not know about Vista. One option is to buy a codec. I think there are some freeware codes as well.
CCCP probably does not include a DVD codec. If it does not play back in WMP it will not play back in MC.

Actually, CCCP does include MPEG-2 decoders that work with DVD.

See this wiki article (http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/DVD_Playback) for additional info.

It maybe a little trickier on Vista than XP. Try selecting a specific video decoder. Try selecting Enhanced Video Renderer (or experiment with all other video renderers). The options are at Tools -> Options -> Playback -> DVD Playback Settings...

i have the same. and when you click ok the codec list is empty. start to play a dvd and the problem dissappeares. on my machine there is cccp and powerdvd codecs. actaully that the list is empty when not playing back a dvd(file) is something that i remember from a long time ago. dont know if it came back or just stayed unnoticed. i stumbled over it also today, i nearly never playback dvd(files).
by the way.. im on a xp machine

I resolved the problem by
-Going to FFDShow Video Decoder Configuration from the start menu
-Selecting Codecs from the list on the left
-Scrolling down to MPEG2 in the list on the right
-Changing Decoder from Disabled to libmpeg2
-Ticking the DVD Decoding box

-Clicking Apply/OK

MC Then started playing the DVD's succesfully.
